Hey RIU community glad to join all of you guys! Have been a reader for a while now joining the ranks and starting a grow journal of my own!

Ok so a little about myself real quick. Started gardening about 7 years ago in soil but very quickly moved into the realm of hydroponics and fell in love with it. I still always dabble in soil but majority of my experience stems in hydroponics. Over the years I have done many styles of hydro including ebb and flo, DWC, drippers, aeroponics, vertical gardening, and even dabbled some in aquaponics. Never really tried NFT, although the vertical gardening was sorta like an NFT in a way.

So the beginning of this of course is pretty mundane... I know nothing really fun to look at yet and quite a while till the seedlings bud but bare with me, and continue to the end! You will be rewarded for your enduring efforts! :)

What we got:

Here's my sprouting seedlings and the list of strains below:
IMG_1810.JPG

Strains (All Seeds from Herbies Head Shop and germinated using paper towel method):
  • Serious Seeds: White Russian (Regular) (6 out of 6 popped and sprouted)

The very first strain I ever flowered was a white strain: White Rhino. I since have always wanted to grow a white strain and this one had been on my list! The reason for the regular seeds was the availability and I wouldn't mind getting some male genetics to work with knowing how uniform the prodigy of the cross the males must have good genes to offer.

  • Serious Seeds: Serious Happiness (AK-47xWarlock) (Feminized) (2 out of 2 Popped 1 died freak accident)
So these were freebies with the WR that were limited released as a tester batch. Could be interesting, might be worth keeping I means its good genetics just goota wait and see. Down to one as a freak accident occurred or something and one didn't make it after the transplant just withered up never had that happen so kinda weird.

  • World of Seeds: Chronic Haze (Feminized) (2/1 popped first one took a while and second one started after the first so we shall see still waiting for germmed seed to sprout)
Came free with the order and haven't had time to research don't know about the company either so any info is appreciated. Guessing it'll be hit or miss but some companies surprise you. Either way I'll see what I get and if I get a diamond in the rough then great!

  • World of Seeds: Afghan Kush x Black Domina (Feminized) (1/1 popped and sprouted)
Same as above but I am hoping on this one to be fruitful more than the Chronic Haze. Really want a nice gooey indica/afghanica. Any info appreciated.

  • (Unkown Breeder): Nicole Kush x Morocco (Regular) (1/5 popped waiting for sprout)
No info on this nor anything from Herbie's hmmm... Nicole Kush from DNA crossed with a Moroccan sativa I would guess. Nicole Kush is Kosher Kush x Nicole. Best info I can gather

  • (Unknown Breeder maybe DNA?): Sour Tangie
These I got from a friend of a friend who knew a guy. Yeah. I was desperate for genetics to start right away and took a risk but proper procedures and quarantine prevailed.

For now here are the new prodigy to take the place of the old Moms are outside to flower :)

A little stress from adjusting to their new home but starting to green up nicely.
IMG_1809.JPG

  • Bagseed: Abusive OG (Hopefully Fem?!)
As stated just a single seed found in a decent size sack so hoping to see if its a female and beyond that hoping its feminized as the bud it came from was good. Topped and with some residual bug damage as I had her outside until just recently but shes been sprayed with neem oil and the damage hasn't been continuing.

Setup (For Now):
  • T5 - 4 Bulbs all 6500K Blue
  • Oscillating Fan
Nothing fancy to see here (gets a little better in their final home which I will show soon) This is a SUPER simple area I am using in a free corner of an office/bedroom for a couple mother plants and clones/seedlings. This area is being upgraded soon enough (slightly). For now, it works though. So much more to come on the development of all these strains.

SO NOW HERE IT IS!

Thanks for baring with me its a lot of info and personal insights into decisions, my history, the current story, etc. that its a lot to write, and as well I know a lot to read. Anyhow now its off to the races.

First Grow:

So here's some pictures first of the first grow I did getting my feet wet reentering the gardening world. Both of these grows are the Sour Tangie mentioned above.

This first one was an ebb and flo (ebb and grow) in hydroton in a (failed) SCROG where it ended up as a skeletal support after the net filled up and then some due to a heat induced extreme stretch.

IMG_0894.JPG IMG_0990.JPG (I did forget how much sativas stretch but compared to the second grow I can confirm the excessive stretching induced in this strain was due to the heat)

So some issues on this batch:

  • At the beginning of flower while I was on leave for 2 days we had a large heat wave and for some weird reason my portable AC shut off. First and only time so far it has done this. Lights shut off with a temp sensor so minimal burn but the stretch was extreme.
  • Temps got so high my water cooling system couldn't keep up for the lights so put them back on normal exhaust system and then wasn't able to use the light mover so the edge of the canopy did not fully develop.
  • The room developed a leak and I was loosing my CO2 too fast so stopped running that after 2 weeks.

ARGH!

Even so pulled in a pound off of 8 plants under two 400W combined with the problems I was still pleased. Finished quicker than the Sour Tangie I read about and apart from early flower when there is a distinct sour smell, not really diesel but sour, the citrus comes through in the last few weeks.

IMG_1082.JPG
This citrus aroma is what dominates between the two in the final product and the flavor on the palette. I was hoping for more of the sour to come through but instead mostly citrus. After a few weeks time in the jar curing citrus is distinct but so is a subtle skunk odor possibly attributed to the Tangie genes.

Not entirely what I was expecting might be the guy just got a weird pheno which if anything leans very heavy on the Tangie side and has a hair more indica in her, I believe which could acount for the shorter flowering time. This was seen both indoor and outdoor.

This first batch burns a little harsher than the second. I was expecting longer flowering times and looked under full spectrum light one day and was like, "Oh Crap almost done gotta flush!!!!" So didn't get the flush I wanted. Second batch was much smoother.

Here's all the nice bud pics from the first grow after 4 years!

Don't worry you guys not leaving you hanging this is but a taste of what's to come. I can only upload 10 pics so this next post is gonna be some pics from the harvest and finished product of this first batch and second batch of Sour Tangie... well it will be tomorrow as it is getting late and I need to sleep but the rest is to come.

I appreciate your current reading and please follow me and this thread as I grow some old school and new school strains as well as some which might be just out there.

I authorize any and all to post in this grow journal just make sure you guys keep it chill and don't be dicks. Happy growing and toking! :leaf::joint:

Ok after the first long post I'll try to finish this up nice and quick,.

I've said enough about the first crop of Sour Tangie so here's some pics to show the harvest and finished product but I need recent pics after curing as colors have changed.

IMG_0753.JPG IMG_0757.JPG IMG_1150.JPG

So I'll probably post some more pics randomly but there's enough to get the point across.

So for Harvest 2 after my stint away, and the second run of Sour Tangie, things were done differently. I took clones from some mother plants and put the mothers upstairs as I was redoing my grow room. At this point I was debating keeping the genetics but decided to give the strain another shot as I figured where and what seeds I was gonna buy.

Fast forward and now I think I'll keep the strain. Outdoors the plants did amazing and really produced some good weight and potent herb. This run seemed to have a better balance with slightly more sour tones coming through but still predominantly citrus. Proper flush (and of course dry and cure) and the finished product is better than the first. Started flowering earlier than expected around the last 2 weeks of July and finished the 2-3 week of September. This must be due to the sativa background. Simple soil grow with nutes and fish tank water occasionally. Flushed with weak nutrient solution. Final weigh in was just shy of a pound..soooo close at 15.95 oz. Not too bad and was fun seeing how they turned. Surprised me especially cause I kinda was lax with these two plants just seeing what would happen. Who knew now I might keep this strain around for a little while.

Also there will be one last post to finish the start of this journal which I will post tonight which is simply a short show of the plants I have outdoors ( More Sour Tangie) upon which some experiments are taking place bwahahaha!

Before I drag on here's the pics! Enjoy!

Ok and finally to finish up this intro here are some Sour Tangie just starting to flower into week 2. 5 in total. Two were indoors to become mothers but now their fate is to flower outside. Other clone siblings are outside with the these two from indoors. All 5 plants were put outdoors for a temporary work done to the house which went longer then expected and they started to flower. They were smaller than I wanted so I put 2 of them back inside and re-vegged them while the other three were revegged with assistance of the sun and a patio light for a few hours each night. Yay wacky growth!

Gonna let the pictures speak but I decided to experiment and trimmed one up a ton, one medium, and one left as a total bush. See what happens. Also the moms from indoors were simply under an under powered fluorescent and now are in an area outside where only their tops get light so they were stripped down to a high degree. They are about a week into flower definitely a little behind the other three. But yeah look at the weird growth of the outdoor vs indoor vegged plants.

Whoops forgot to mention tonight the second of 2 WOS Chronic Haze seeds popped and was put in a cube! This leaves only 4/5 Nicole Kush x Morocco still germinating. Also the Serious Happiness and NK x M came above the cube. Each had helmets so I had to carefully assist. Waiting for the 2 Chronic Haze to come above their cubes now. All is looking good!

So not much new today but I did transplant 5/6 White Russian since they had roots coming out the bottom. They started to get a little stretched because I had the light higher for some other plants. So today I moved those taller plants, the Abusive OG and two Sour Tangie all of which are in soil, making this room for my seedlings exclusively and those plants in hydro. Tired of messy soil indoors so gonna only do soil outdoors for a while. Love the clean look a hydro grow room can have...at least at a lower labor (depending on media etc)

So the Abusive OG and Sour Tangie will be vegged outside and spend a few hours each evening with a T5 on them. That way less weird growth possibilities as the other plants I vegged outside. But I will of course take clones before they flower.

Heres the pics of the new setup for the seedlings which is Drain to Waste using rockwool. Also sprinkled some Great White as a topdress for the rockwool cubes and put coco covers on the bigger seedlings.

Also went to a dispensary for the first time in 4-55 or so years (did not smoke during the time I didn't grow). Had the opportunity in an area 15 min from one (sucks with the closest one an hour drive from home). Anyhow finally picked up some of the CO2 oil concentrate vape pens and got some Jack Herer and Louie OG to puff on while I work :blsmoke:

IMG_1834.JPG

Also another nice bud pic from the last harvest: (had to break up the big nugs after drying to fit in the jars :()

So not too much new so far. The two Chronic Haze seedlings popped above their cubes today so now all seeds in the rockwool are up and growing!

I still have 4/5 Nicole Kush x Morocco seeds in the paper towel and maybe they will do something. The first one popped so quickly and all these other seeds are big dark and look so strong hoping they might just be a bit dormant.

Will post more pics of the seedlings in the next couple days but not much to see right now.

The plants are flowering away outside. The pH got a little low so dosed them with an EXTREMELY small amount of hydrated lime for a small immediate bump and now I need to go to the store to get some more dolomite lime. Need to check the pH tomorrow. Also the plants put from indoors to outdoors are slightly lagging in flowering compared to those which were vegged in their weird way outdoors. Otherwise here's their pics.

Also posting the pics as thumbnails on this post I don't know majority preference if it is easier because of the loading times for full images in the posts or what.... lemme know what the norm is for majority convenience.

So its been a while and been super busy with getting a new job and the holidays. Any how heres the quick updates. Been really dry over in these parts and humidities were really low and my humidifier crapped out on me so the growth was starting out really slow. Now things are picking up though. Had a bit of an overfert when those dry days hit so ran lower water till the humidity reached normal levels. Apart from that starting to see a bit of what I think is a calcium deficiency(small copper/rust dead spots on tips of leaves progressing inwards) and while not in the newest growth and appearing in the middle leaves, I am to suspect these to be just as susceptible due to their also growing nature. So upping the calcium to stop that otherwise things are looking good and plants are taking off.

Also out of the 6 White Russian one appears to have a mutation. Started with 2 cotyledons and then we got 3 weird disfigured (due to overfert probably) first true leaves and then, well, look at the recent growth. Slow going so not expecting anything but a potential good show with this one.

All the other seedlings progressing as well only two other showing the suspected calcium deficiency so its happening in the oldest and biggest of the seedlings and progressing to others as they age.

Outdoor plants are flowering and showing crystals now. Here comes the stink. As before this strain starts out nice with bits of the diesel coming through. Getting some bugs so sprayed with some neem oil. Took some clones of the Sour Tangie to make a new mom not in dirt and also cloned the Abusive OG so getting that thing rolling.
