Hi all
First time grower. I've converted an old pantry unit. Veg box is 750mm deep, 650mm wide and 650mm high. Flower box is same dimensions other than being 1000mm high. I'm running 6x 23w CFL's 18hrs on 6hrs off. Also have a 100mm inline fan that is drawing from the bottom and exhausts out the top. Have same setup for flower box. Have a small fan inside blowing breeze onto plant. These both run 24hrs. Have made a light block where air is drawn in so unit is 100% sealed with no light leak.
I was given some seeds of unknown strain which I germinated then put into jiffy peat pellet. From there transplanted into current pot. Temp is between 28-32 Celsius. Humidity is between 30-40%. I feed it seaweed nutes that have an NPK of 5-1-4 around every 4 days. Only growing one plant to get some experience before trying more so hope it's a female. Ive attached some photos as I have a few questions. Plant has been in current pot for 2 weeks. It has filled out some but the stem hasn't grown in height hardly any. It's been looking healthy until this morning where 2 leaves have turned light green at their tips. Have no idea what has caused this or what to do to fix it. Also do I need to get the humidity up. Any help appreciated and any modifications to grow box you feel would help please let me know. Cheers. 20181218_094345.jpg 20181218_094705.jpg 20181218_094824.jpg 20181218_094830.jpg 20181218_095041.jpg

How much of the nutes are you feeding (in terms of dilution)? For a young plant like that I would tone it down to 1 tsp per gallon of water

But for the growth that looks normal. Within the next two weeks you should see an explosion of growth (takes 3-4 weeks for the roots to properly set in, especially in a container of that size).
Also are you planning on replacing those lights? 23w CFLs are good for seedlings and clones but the yield will be miniscule for flowering. Even for properly vegging I don't think those lights give off enough light. I personally use them as supplemental lighting on the sides of my tent just to help cover the entire footprint.

I do plan on upgrading lights once funds allow. I was using 1tsp per half gallon so I'll water it down some more. Cheers for the tips

Do I need to remove the leaves that are turning light green?
It wouldn't hurt just clipping a couple/few leaves, yellow leaves that early in a plants life towards the bottom of the stalk will not turn green again 99.9% of the time. What the yellowing is signaling is that plant assimilating what is left in the leaf before its natural mandatory cycle of detachment from the plant, but you don't really want your leaves too close to the soil as a general rule, one reason being it allows for an easy place for bugs to hide, and bacteria can cause infection more easily also.

Plus light trimming should help the plant put new leaves on a little quicker if you watch for the leaves kind-of take on a used up/slightly aged look, like they are about to yellow, if you can learn to predict which leaves the plant wants to drop next, it will speed the plant to adult size more quickly. (Be sure to use sterile scissors or blade when trimming, seedlings especially.)

Are you planning to do any lst training while the plant is young?

I germinated it in a jiffy peat pellet then into current pot. Would it have been better to transplant into a pot maybe half the size of the one Its currently in and then transplant again into a bigger one. Do plants grow faster with less room for roots. Vertical growth seems very slow to me. Wondering if it's in to big a pot. I'm not going to transplant it again just curious for next plant. Cheers

The container size is about right, it's good to not move the plant too often, this can stunt the plant. Planting the plant while it's a seedling into the full-sized container it's destined to grow in wouldn't hurt anything either, unless the seedling got stringy and tall to quickly for some reason, then you may have to re-plant it, but usually with training and fans this problem can be easily avoided.

I'd say just be patient for a bit longer, if you trimmed a few leaves it should trigger some new growth in a few days, to a week.

Good luck the lst training, it can be exciting to see new growth and with new branches popping out and the plants reaction to stimulus and resistance and so forth, a great learning experience.....may you enjoy yourself.

I've used 3 and 5 gallon pots that I transplant into from solo cups. I've noticed plants in the larger containers don't gain height as quickly as those in the smaller containers. I guess it has something to do with the way the roots grow. Basically I think when they fill out the pot, they'll explode in vertical growth. That's just my experience.

I'm at a place now where I've seen a couple dozen plants produce pretty decent bud, and every one of them lost leaves. Mainly bottom leaves, and leaves that weren't getting enough light. And, of course, there's been accidents and misadventure. So don't worry too much if it happens to you. I think it's pretty much a forgone conclusion for newbie growers. And you can still get good bud.

BTW, I'm convinced the yellowing you're seeing is due to a lack of light. They're probably getting too much shade there. I think growing with CFLs is going to cause you a lot of problems that could easily be mistaken for nutrient deficiencies down the line. I know we do what we have to do, though.
