first grow...needs help with just about everything...typical...

Hello all,
I'm new to the hobby as well as to the board. I am familiar with being a newb on various boards but I understand why I might be deemed twice as newbish on this one. I'm basically the stranger with 1 post that claims to grow shit...yeah right and all that...

Yet I am this guy coming out of the blue. claiming he's planning to do his first serious grow. Serious as in I expect to grow stuff that is worth my time quality wise. I don't care much about quantity...yet.

There should be pics and all but there aren't as of now. I plainly don't feel too right about uploading pics but some of you will eventually talk me into it and sooner or later I probably will. I'm into germination right now anyway and not much to show other than my set up. Again I do apologize for the lack of pictures, there will be some in the future. I know this reduces the credibility of my post but I couldn't help it at this moment.

My set up by the way is pretty basic. I just converted an IKEA closet into a grow box and that's about that. Covered it up with aluminum foil and everything. Don't have any serious ventilation the room is well aired on its own and I figured a couple of commercial fans strategically placed would take care of excess heat from the lamp. I would really like to avoid the drilling holes to walls and putting ducting all over the place as I don't live in a home I own.

The lamp though is an issue. I bought it a couple of years ago when I had more money and less experience. So I got a Philips 400w Agro son-t, the works...for a frow space roughly 3 by 1,5 feet. I know that this could cause trouble what with the heat the lamp's giving off combined with my poor ventilation but really, to prevent people from putting unecessary emphasis on this, I know and I can't really do much about. Let's leave it at that. As I said the room is well ventilated on its own and no I don't really care about odors. And well I've grown pot with it before and I don't think it was heat that made my stuff crap.

I should add I'm not from the US or anywhere in the EU where you get a lot of members from. So most of the commercial brands of horticulture products I read about here either aren't available in my local market or are insanely expensive to order from stateside.

And here goes serious problem number one: I have bought 8 litres of fine fertilised soil but it is at 6.2 PH. I know I have to raise it before I plant the seedlings in but for the love of me I couldn't find limestone ANYWHERE(I know, right?) so I dug up this PDF I got attached with my post. It's a uni in Alabama or something and they claim basically that fine eggshell powder is as good if not better than ground lime for the purpose of raising soil PH. They provide graphs and everything and though I am no experienced horticulturist I think it's obvious it worked. I would like people with more experience to read this and help me out a bit maybe??? If it's not too much trouble anyway. I just want to confirm I got my calculations right. I plan to use 3 1,5 kg plastic pots as containers. 1 part perlite, 3 parts soil. So 3 kgs of soil...according to my calculations

Other than I will strive to keep up to date I will ask for further info as I go...and yes, there will be pics!

EDIT: In fact forget about the PDF it's too large to upload. So, if anyone who's done this before could tell me what his mixing ratio was I'd be most pleased. I think my previous grow went all wrong because of overly acidic soil and I don't plan to repeat that mistake. Time to make new ones...
