First Grow - Seedlings Up Some Questions

I planted my first seeds a week or so ago in my greenhouse. 11 seeds went in and I've got 6 plants from that. All the seeds have germinated though 4 appear to have died before breaking the ground. One more had some leaf above ground but something appears to have happened to it. It might still be saved though I'm not hopeful.

A couple of questions.

I plan on getting lights at some point for my grows but I need to save up a little and thought I'd do a grow in the mean time. I want to take any male plants I get and one female and put them in a separate location to get some more seeds. At what age of plant will I be able to sex them?

To get seeds, is it enough to simply put the make and female plants together and let nature take its course? How do you collect the seeds? Can you put plastic sheeting under the plants and let the seeds fall on it and collect them from there?

If I get enough females I'd like to take one to practice taking clones from. What's the best age to start doing that?

You can always sex your plants with 12/12 lighting, but most plants will show some sort of preflower at about 4 weeks. The males will show first. As far as making seeds, just let nature take it's course. You will have so many seeds that collection shouldn't be a problem. I just let the buds mature and collect the seeds at harvest. A few may fall out before then, but you will have plenty. You can cut clones as soon as you have 5 or 6 nodes. I just top them then, and use the tops for clones. If you need more clones, top again! It might be easier to grow a mother or two if you want a lot of clones. Cloning is easy. I use rapid rooters and rooting hormone powder.
