First grow, third post; advice wanted, accepted, and appreciated.

Hello hello. I'm growing an Il Diavolo indoors, and really pretty intrigued on it's process. I haven't smoked it, and already it's altering my perception of time, and my dreams.

While it feels like it's been weeks since I planted the germinated seed, it's actually been 9 days now.

I'm a little concerned by the yellowing tips on the leaves, and thinking it may be a nitrogen issue. But, really, I'm doing my best to avoid the common 'new growers' mistakes.

Except experimenting, I suppose. I had read about a fellow growing this strain, and he seemed to think about doing a 24 hour light schedule for it, using two CFL's as seen above (20 watt, which, according to the package is equal to 75 watt in incandescent? I dunno) Thinking it easier then keeping track of on/off times, that's what I've been doing up till this point. I also have a 250 watt HPS waiting above it, for when it starts to flower.

For those that may not know, Il D is an autoflowering strain, so I'm assuming the constant light will not hurt it. But, I don't really know. It seems healthy so far, though I was concerned by the light droop in the leaves and the yellowing.

Anyway, love the forum so far, and looking forward to learning from experienced guys. Thanks for any input.

At this point you shouldn't have any nitrogen issues. My guess it is a bit over watered and needs to dry out. I'm guessing you're using miracle grow organic soil because of the wood chips. I don't recommend this soil, but some people have success with it. If I were you I'd go buy a bag of Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil or Roots Organic soil and replant your little lady. Or if your on a budget you could buy some perlite and mix it with the soil you have.

Plants need darkness too. For autos, many people recommend a 20/4 cycle. A 24 hour cycle may also work, but it probably won't increase your yield so why not save the electricity.

I would turn on the HPS in a couple of weeks even if preflowers haven't shown up. They work great for veg and will give you a denser plant. However, it would be overkill on your lady at this point.

Definitely don't freak out about that little bit of yellow on the leaf. When in doubt, do nothing.

But really, thanks for the advice. Yeaaa~ I did my soil shopping at Wal Mart. Good call on what I bought. For some reason I thought it had pearlite in it, but I saw soon after it didn't. I wanted to look into Fox Farm, but I wasn't sure where to get it, like if it was a national product, or something I'd have to get online. I suppose I half assed it there.

Good to know about the HPS, I had put it on for 2 days or so but decided to take it back off.

Anywho, I'll probably start putting up pictures each Friday, so it'll be easier to keep track of.

Sounds good. I think most growers start with MG organic haha, I know I did. You can order Fox Farm soil and stuff online at htgsupply.com, but shipping is kind of pricey. Your best bet would be finding a hydro store near you. I've yet to find a nursery that carries it.

Quite a difference from last week. Pretty neat. I've started up the HPS yesterday or so. Still kinda working on getting the watering right.

Yes, now! I lost track of my camera for a while.

I was surprised how many roots were in the very bottom of my pot when I TP'd. I have pots that like, prevent over watering, I guess, with grooves in the bottom, and a big mass of roots had settled into it. It was kinda crazy. I haven't got the FF soil yet, like a lazy person, but I'll probably get some for my next grow.

It seems to be doing alright...yellow'd leaves, but not too many. I think I may not really water often enough for perfection, but it seems to be doing alright.
