It looked as if my babies (5 to 10 inches tall) were being torn apart, but no leaves actually came off in that minute or two that they were outside. Is this much wind too much? I'm having trouble finding any numbers on the issue...

Where were the plants before you put them outside?

If they went from inside with no wind to outside in 25mph wind then they will naturally struggle. Try conditioning them indoors with a fan perhaps. Or if they must go outside then try and shield them for a bit, until they strengthen.

I often get confused, so here comes nothing....

How much wind YOU should allow???? Think you misspelled your nick, should have spelled G-O-D :D

Couldn´t resist....., sorry ;)

we get fairly strong winds (i live ~10min from the beach on a hill) and my seedlings did fine outside, but i tied them to sticks just to be sure the stem didnt break. I would try trying them to chopsticks just below the leaves, worked pretty well for me.

We have had wind almost every day, 20-60 MPH. But I needed to get my plants out. So Here is what helped me for the first 3 weeks. First I tried cups, I cut the bottoms out, poked holes on each side and staked into the ground with shish kbob sticks I got at Wallylast to sprout, very slow growing 022.jpg World. That lasted for about a week. They got to big. So I took and used clear notebook plastic cover paper protectorslast to sprout, very slow growing 019.jpg. That worked great! Took them off because the plants can handle the wind now.
