First growroom help

Hey all.

I've been reading through this forum for a couple of months and think I'm getting the general hang of growing. And I'm going to start up my very first grow room in the next weeks.

So the space I was thinking about is 3*9 ft for flowering and 3*3 for veg. For discretion and better climate control I'm probably going to make this into a grow box.

So what I want to know is:

1. I'm thinking one plant per square foot, how tall do I need to build my box?

2. How much lighting do I need? Due to location I can only buy CFL's. Will I need better lamps? Where can I buy them discretely online?

3. A grow of this size is probably going to stink to high heaven. I'm thinking of setting this grow up in a garage, in cold and windy climate. What steps do you recommend to get rid of the smell?

4. Can you point out a good nutrition chart for a soil based growth?

5. How much can I expect this setup to yield?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer these questions

1. Height is going to be a factor. As you may know there are 3 phases to growing. The first being the seedling stage where most people have seedlings on 24 hours of light for the first week or two. After that is the vegging, the light cycle should be decreased to about 18 hours light 6 hours dark to allow the plant some rest. Most plants will grow about twice as big during the last stage of flowering. So it depends on how big of a box you will have, and how big you want plants to be. If you want a decent grow, i would say it should be at least 4-5 feet tall because you will have lights hanging from the top that will take up some space

2. If you are going to be using florescents, which i have successfully used in all stages of growing, you would probably want a 4 foot ballast with 2 bulb fixtures for 2 plants at the most. I had 3 sets of florescents, different light spectrums for just two plants indoors. Some people advice using HPS or MH lights from the budding stage, and it will definitely increase your yield and size of plant. Florescents should be placed as close to plants as possible, usually no more than 4 inches, without burning plants. MH or HPS lights need to be alot farther away or they will burn your plants. Make sure if with florescents that you purchase plant or aquarium lights, and different spectrum bulbs would be ideal.

3. To reduce or completely eliminate smell you could go the route of buying or making a negative ion generator. Positive ions is what creates smells and by cancelling them out, it should help to reduce odors. Other than that not a whole lot you can do.

4. Not sure of a good soil nutrient chart, but you want a high nitrogen fertalizer for the budding stage and a high phosphorus and potassium fertalizer.

5. Yield is too hard to predict, varies with strain, conditions and nutrients. I only got about a half ounce dried per plant off indoor grow with florescents and plant was under 3 feet tall.

If you are doing an enclosed box, you need a vetilation system, and some type of air circulation to bring in CO2 and keep plants moving to make stems stronger. Just some things to think about.
