first pot watering

seedlings in riot cubes, gonna be put into their first pots. Do you water until run off 1st time? If not then how much water should be given roughly? Have grown before but seems for a while now I've gone stupid and can't get the watering right. Seem to always be lack of roots and plants growing really small.

I do water 'to run-off" from the start. Just realize where your roots are starting from and that, for a few waterings, you should go by top dryness more than pot weight.

What you mean realise where the roots are starting from for a few waterings? I am wondering if thats where I've gone this time around....once again lol....was waiting a lot on the pot weight and the bottom of course would always be heavy even when the top parts of the pot would be bone dry.

Since the roots have not expanded to the lower area of the pot, you need to watch the surface for drying rather than depend just on the total weight. The moisture you feel as weight might be too low in the pot and the roots cannot reach it.

How much water should i give then? Sounds like watering to run off aint the right way to go straight away? Water from the top and slowly increase it? I got 5 freebies and i aint even gonna bother finishing them tbh its a crap strain. I just want to get the watering sorted before i order more seeds. Pissed off big time with it all tbh lol

Seriously, water to run-off. Gravity is your friend. You are choosing when to water based on where the roots are (with your finger in the dirt to the depth a bit past your cube) Watering to run-off is hydrating the area where you wish your roots to expand to as things dry. This all assumes good drainage. Are you in soil? What size pot?

Cool. I'm in peat. My suggestion remains. Do what you will.
No it makes sense, roots gonna grow to where the water is. If top half of pot is dry though but bottom still heavy would you suggest waiting on the lower pot to go light in weight or giving abit of a top up to the top half.
