First tent grow 400 watt HPS biodiesel mass and skunk mass grow.

What's up guys!
This is my first attempt at growing not only autos, but just in general. My whole life I've seemed to have a black thumb, but I'm ready to redeem myself! I'm growing Advanced Seeds BioDiesel Mass and Skunk Mass I bought from Herbies spending a whopping $10! Haha anyways here's my setup.
2'x4"x5" tent from amazon for $80.
400 watt HPS off of craigslist for $60.
A cheap 240 CFM inline fan with approx. 5' of 6"ducting total for about $50.
Dyna Grow Grow, Blossom and Pro-tekt. $40
Fox farm Ocean Forest potting mix for $13.
Generic 5 gallon Smart pots from amazon x2 for $6
so total invested so far is $259.

8/21: I germinated both seeds using the paper towel method.

8/22: Both had taproots showing but the biodiesel's taproot was still in the shell, making an"O". Planted both 3/8" deep in 5 gallon fabric pots.

8/23: The Skunk Mass showed itself to the world.

Today, the biodiesel mass still hasn't broke ground but I'm still hopefull! I ran a dry run in the tent to check temps the day before I potted my seeds and it was 99f! I fixed that by adjusted the ducting in the tent to vent right off of the open air hood and set up a cheap fan to blow towards the light somewhat. My temps now at the highest are 84-86f with good air circulation and around 45%RH. Light is about 24" above tops of the pots. I'm using dechlorinated tap water. Still waiting on my pH adjusters and pen, but I called the water company and they said the water is pH is generally around 6.7 so I think I'll be okay for now.

Feel free to comment or shed light into anything as you please! This might be a little slow journal but I'm hoping it turns into a way to learn and keeping advancing myself towards being a better grower.

That looks like my grow light and thermometer lol looking good so far.. I had a temp problem myself. . Running two of them 400 hps lights. .. Keep an eye on the ph aswell, you never know.. jusBlaze

Anyone know how to quiet the whoosh noise from my ducting?

a duct muffler is the only way to calm it down
or a longer run of duct really only ways that i know

Thanks man, I'm going to see if I can just make one myself cause they are a little pricey to me. Maybe my carbon filter will quiet em down enough once I get it added on.

that fan may not keep up with your space after the carbon filter i estimate my 240 cfm at about 80 cfm after my filter

all a duct muffler is
1 run of hard pipe lets say 8" x 3'
it comes in sheets with a tongue and groove
2 reducers to what ever duct
and some 2" foam egg crate is the best with the little wiffles in it and just glue it to the hard pipe with enough to lap a little when you clip the tongue and groove together
secure the reducers with screws and close the seams with duct tape

Damn, well if I have to I'll invest in another inline cheapie and use it as my intake or maybe a sequential system like one right after another. I just can't bring myself to fork out $150 for a nice can am haha. Would a higher cfm rated filter help or would it be ineffective for taking care of the stank?

Yea a filter will lower your cfm's my 400cfm plus a50cfm booster still have temps in the high 80's.. partly due to outside temps building up in the basement.. No choice but to install some kind of ac unit.. So think about getting a booster aswell if you see your temps go up. . And with you grower ina tent the negative pressure from the fan will bring in fresh and cooler air

look into the soler and palau
its worth it bro some of the silent models have variable speed and its a mixed flow so it will handle the drag of the filter a lot better
ive seen them less then 100 bucks just gotta look around

I've been poking at the idea of buying a cool tube 600 MH/HPS combo with switchable ballast and running my current inline fan for that and a separate intake with the same type inline fan just to keep fresh air in the tent. I might need an ac unit anyways for my apartment for next summer so I might just buy one soon and keep in the room the tent is in for now.

I'll look into man thanks for the info! I had no idea a filter would cut CFM's that drastically. I better figure it out cause they are going to be flowering in less than a month lol.

im running one of those but i have a small box that is more than enough 120 bucks you can beat it cooltube and all
hell my bulb cost half of what the hood and ballast did

3 year warranty im pretty sure the seller haas the 600 aswell

Man that's a great find tek! Temps right now are 86 and its only 74 outside so I think I might order a 600 cool tube hopefully from that same seller.

Damn mega lo mart haha I love that show! Good to know, I am usually iffy on some ebay things. You sending it back? If you are, pick up that cheap booster fan I showed you that is on amazon.

think im just going to get a variable speed inline and just be done with it 4" fan and some reducers and then build a 4" muffler and just use all my 6" ducting would equal out to about 160 cfm if im figuring right
hadnt heard back from the seller yet i gave him a good ass reaming and even after this is remedied im going to make sure my feedback states false advertisement
