First Time BHO

I have a glass extraction tube, seems smaller in length then most others on the youtube video's . I'm curious to how tight to pack it for best efficiency and if I should use dry trim/buds or fresh/frozen.

Different oil makers use different methods. Personal preference with some things.

There's benifits to using dry bud vs fresh with regards to how much material you can process in the same amount of time..Dry buds are also more decarbed than fresh if you are not further going to heat the oil to decarb state. But if you are smoking the oil it wouldn't matter as much because burning it to smoke is decarbing it anyway..

But if you don't have much material to run fresh frozen is good too because it will hold onto more resin heads than processed, dried product.

Trim is a hit or miss whether it will make good oil or not. But if you start with excellent material you can end up with an excellent product.

That's a lot of help. I find that I'm pretty bad at navigating forums and finding specifically what I want. I do a google search and then can never locate the information I want on the page that comes up. But I'm on it.

P.s. It's hard to just chunk of some fresh/dry bud, takes that leap of faith. I guess I should try running just a tube of sticky icky and see how it goes. Hmmm....

Getting the best product possible is like the elusive white whale. Full melt from bubble hash, never attained it.

The BHO I made yesterday looks pretty good and is pretty stony. Doesn't seem to burn as clean as possible. Maybe I'm not heating the nail enough.

My yield from yesterday was terrible, I didn't use anything but frozen trim that was super high quality when I froze it, months ago but it didn't look to good thawing out. I'm drying it out to try the next 40g. Which I'll make sure is in smaller pieces than that frozen.

My 8" tube is listed with a capacity of 25 to 40 grams. Butane is super spendy could be cause of my location but 12$ a bottle or 120 a case is outrageous seeming. It's Newport brand.

I have a decent crop of 4 plants that's coming down in the next 48 hours so that will contribute material. I'll bite the bullet, you think just go for the gusto and chop up 40 grams of dry cured bud? I think I know the answer to that.

Better yield from my second batch. not finished quite yet but it's better for sure. Pretty sure I put a little to tight this time. I had to let it drip out for a long time. i'll probably dry out a the material I've run and hit it again but it may be a waste of butane, until I start buying it online it's to damm expensive here.

When it comes to smoking, flowers just aren't the same as before I found BHO.

you can literally blow out the remaining butane with your mouth, works well, little cold haha

Sometimes a mix between flower and trim is always nice. But you know better than anyone if your trim is crap or not. You use crap you get crap... And as far as the tubes. We pack ours pretty tight. We use a 3-4ft stainless tube and it takes almost 3 cans of tane just to get things rollin. I'll fill it slowly, stopping every once in a while to pack it down with some bamboo just use extra caution when packing that shit, its an easy way to get plant matter into your end product. Kick ass, depending on what I have to get done, I'll be running a couple of batches today. That stainless sounds beast. I'm using an 8" glass extractor. I know that trim from last night is going to be good. I was very judicial on my trimming. Figure if the flowers are mine and the hash is mine i may as well make the best hash possible.

Ahh holy crap that's fantastic. My latest batch is by far the best, quality and yield.

Going to get the stainless to make my own extractor tube tomorrow. I hear I may want to get specifics from Guz.

I reused my coffee filter to many times, pressure blew out a small chip at the top of my extractor. Not sure maybe it was something else, but you could blow through the tube before so I don't think it was over packed.

Coffee filters won't last forever . But I can squeeze a few uses out of one.

stainless steel tubes are grrreat I.m.o.

get some that are small enough to fit in your freezer though!

I doubt pressure was at fault. More likely the glass was not properly annealed.

I agree about the glass it was super cheap. I used it again tonight with some amazing trim and a paper towel to plug the small chip. worked great. Got a little over 10%, 2 gram from 20. I'll be getting 2 stainless tubes tomorrow.
