Yeah it is just a weed but even weeds need the right soil, nutes, weather and so on to reach their full potential. Provided that your soil is rich in organic matter, well drained and the plants receive the proper amount of light you could be just fine. On the other hand if you are missing any one of the elements needed by the plant to reach its genetic potential then you will more than likely be disappointed in your results. As already stated do lots of reading, know your soil content and figure out what you want in return for your investment in this project. Keep a journal, try a couple of different approaches and see what works the best in your surroundings. Good Luck and never be afraid to ask for more help.
