first time harvest....

Well as the title says im new to this. My question is after i hang the buds up and the outside becomes crisp, i put them in a mason jar correct. From when i cut the buds off the stem and insert them into the jar, do i leave the lid open or do i seal it. How much time should i air it out every single day and for how long. Some people are saying leave the jar open over night, 30 mins leave it open, burp it for 15mins etc. I just want to know the right way to do this because i dont want to mess this up. How long into curing does that hay smell go away.

starts smelling different about a week in. and from what i understand you want to keep the tiniest bit of moisture in the material for curing. because once it dries out completely, the process is irreversible. it's mostly guesswork through trial and error, unless you buy a caliber III hygrometer.

HAng and dry til it's dry on the outside, then put in jar. After half a day or so, open up the jar and feel the buds. They'll probably feel moist again, so you'll want to leave the container open for a half hour or so then close it. In another half day, open it again and feel them. Probably still moist. Open jar and leave open for 30 mins. Keep repeating this process until they are not moist to the touch, then just put the jar into a dark cool place and leave the lid on for a couple months if you can. You'll have wicked buds.

I find that when I open the jar, I stick my nose in and take a big sniff. If it feels like moist air in my nostrils then it's too moist. It's like stepping off the plane when you arrive in mexico, you can feel the moisture when you breathe in. That's how I found it best to judge when it was too moist and needed to be opened.

Thanks for the replies guys what happens if the small buds dry quicker than the big buds my friends had dryed quicker the small buds and he waited till the big ones were dry out on the outside and it ended up way to dry. If they are dry on the outside and moist when I squeeze should I cut them off and stick them in the jar? Thanks

Just put the small buds into a jar before the larger buds, and let the larger ones dry out a bit more. I didnt do this though, I found that even though the small buds were dryer than the big buds, they evened themselves out once they were all in the same jar getting the same ammount of moisture. Like the big buds gave some of their moisture to the little guys

if they dry out completely you just put orange peels or a small piece of damp paper towel in with them and seal it theyll be back sticky and good in no time

actually, no, it doesn't work like that. that will only add moisture, it will not re-start the curing process.

Some of the very small buds fell off can I just put them in the jar. Now when yóu open them each day should they have dried up on the outside then your should close it or 30 mins and then u should close it. Reason why I ask is its been moist not so moist. Its been only 2 days so I could just be buggin out also some of them are early and some I just put in will that affect anything
