First-Time Indoor Growing - Starting at the Beginning - Advice Welcome!

I'm trying to set up a pro, albeit small operation.

I'm moving into a new apartment in a few weeks and I'd like to set up one or two plants to grow. I've just started this process and have been trying to read a bunch online and now I finally have enough information to start asking somewhat coherent questions.

I will be posting my trials and tribulations throughout this whole process.

--------------

Grow-tent: I want to be able to grow one or two plants in my bedroom Dark Room II 24x24x64. There are just so many options and I'm not quite sure what to do. I want to ensure I have a high quality set-up and don't want to cut any corners

Light: I'm thinking a 400 Wt HPS/MH Air cooled, but I'm open to suggestions

Heating/Ventilation: Fan draws air in from the outside puts it through a carbon filter (remove odor). This keeps CO2 levels low, humidity low, and temp low. Right? Anything specific that needs to be considered for a fan

Watering/Soil: I'm probably going to use pre-made soil. Haven't quite gotten this far yet.

Seeds: Probably buy these online, no medical card, so again not quite sure.

--------------

When I'm trying to start out what else do I need to consider, what's the best way to go about actually starting? Cost isn't a huge concern, but I'd like to be efficient ---- eg Buy the wrong grow-tent/light/etc.

I'm really just looking for some help and a guiding hand.

invest in a carbon filter or fan/filter combo if you are in an apartment and good soil, miracle grow is ok but you'll be glad you spent the extra 20 bucks on some good stuff. I use an organic blend from my local supply store. The rest of what you are planning sound pretty good for a few plants. Good genetics are key as well do your research on whatever breeder you decide to go with. Keep reading and good luck you are definitely in the right place to learn. I attribute the majority of what I know to RIU.

Here is what I have picked out as my first grow tent

Thoughts?

Tent: Secret Jardin Dark Room II Pro 60 - 24 x 24 x 64 Inches ----135$
Light: iPower 400 Wt MH/HPS Kit (includes ballast,timer,dimmer) --- 185$
Ventilation:4'' inline fan w/ carbon scrubber (exhaust) --- 90$
What else would I need to construct the grow-tent itself? I think I would need a thermometer, humidity probe as well? Also what tubing is typically used? Do I need an intake fan as well?
----After I square away what grow tent I'm buying I'll be posting more about actually growing!

Your tent is 2'x2'x64"? That's kinda small for 2 plants. How large is the dark room? You really should get a basic book like Cervantes " How to grow Marijuana" first before you decide on anything. Peace

Depends what you mean by "Operation" If your growing from seed everytime, 24 x 24 should be fine for one larger plant, it will be easier to take care of, 400watt HID digital ballast maybe dimmable because you will have some heat issues, you will need a 6 inch fan carcon filter combo with a manual speed controller/rheostat. Thing is with the smaller space the heat builds up fast so your gonna work your filter, and the fan which means more noise, anyone in your apartment will hear it. So be aware of that.If your growing as in grow op, as in producing more than just yourself it means you will need a clone from your plant before you flip it to 12/12.Practice cloning, you will need a razor rooting hormone alcohol and a humidity dome and some peat pucks or rock wool this way you can veg another plant while your other is flowering, which means a second tent some scissors for topping some string for LST'ing.Get some nutes I use Advance nutrients PH perfect Grow and bloom, and supplement with mollasses and epsom salt in flowering. Also my soil is 50% Promix HP with 20% potting soil, and 30% worm castings.I have grown 12" clones and flowered them they stretched to 18"s and flowered nicely in one gallon pots.I have also grown some bigger ones in 3 and 5 gallon pots which I found to be more labourious but you get more yield. All in how much you want to spend really and how much DIY you can do, there is alot of Useful DIY stuff out there man,I have built my own LED fixtures for a fraction of the price of manufactured ones. The internet is full of useful ifo you just have to go get it.Peace
