first timer with led ,looking for advice

Hello all ...my first post so here goes ,,,
I am not new to indoor lights,,have been using 400w and 1000w HID for some time,,,
but now I notice led is starting to make its mark?
I really would like to know if I use a led will I get the same heat that I get with HID etc,and I see these lights are even on ebay now ??
but please can anybody tell me if they work ? what is the pros/cons with led?

I uploaded a pic from ebay would this work just as good as what I am use to?

Stick with your HPS and MH fixtures before buying old tech led blurples. That light you linked will NOT perform as well as the HID fixtures. Not even close. When people are talking about leds and heat and efficiency, they are referring to top of the line led lights. Not usually sold on Amazon.


Now if you want proper leds, check out some of the big names, HLG, Timber, Cutter etc.....they all sell legit proper led lights. Diy or prebuilt.

Before you switch to leds do some research..that led is shit.

get a QB instead of LED.

Op, you got good advice, don't bother with that fixture you posted...... Research/spend more for better options, or stick with hid

Reducing heat and reducing power bill (efficiency), are the 2 main reasons people upgrade to LED.

The efficiency of that light is at best equal to your HID. The spectrum may be fine, the light may work, but you're not really gaining anything if the efficiency doesn't beat your tried and true.

The best light is the one that best fits your situation. If you are in a cold room, it's hard to beat beat HID. If not, consider LED.

The light you pictured is known as blurple and they are old, inefficient tech and often unreliable.
Good LED is very efficient and white, often with a little far red added. They last for years and years without bulb replacements.

The heat is directly proportional to the wattage, 1 watt = 3.412142 BTU. The difference is that LED can be much more efficient and produce the same light with less wattage. LED doesn't raise leaf temperature above air temp. with infrared like HID, so air temp. can be a few degrees higher with LED.

Pros:
Good LED consumes less electricity and can save a lot on AC, but has higher initial cost.
LED can often be run within inches of the canopy, oftyen saving precious vertical space.
Good LED can have excellent light spread, the edges get as much as the center.

Cons:
Good LED is more expensive, but it's constantly getting better and cheaper.
Needs a little different conditions and growing skills. Others here can better address that aspect, I've only used florescent and LED.

A couple cheaper, but still very effective LED.

Boards for tents and strips for coverage. So many options out now just requires some research. You did the best thing by asking first because you've saved yourself a big headache already.

Tbh i didnt read this entire thread. Main question I always ask is what is the size of your flower space?

Watts produce the same heat be it an LED or hid. The reason leds are so good is because basically you only need 500w of led to equal 1000w of hid. More or less. Therefore half the power, half the heat. Often the problem is not enough heat after switching. Plants under leds like temps around 80f.
I have 300w of cobs from rapidled in my 3x3 and 260w QB from hlg in my 2x4. Both are excellent lights and companies.

T8 led 5000k bulb any thought

Thanks for the reply..Have been looking but ends up costing heaps for setup and grow conditions change from what I read,,

We just Finished our first full led grow using 3 timber fattys and 900w worth of QB over 2 4x8 trays. Did approximately 1gpw. By far the best smelling and frostiest run we’ve had in the past 5 years.
