i am fairly constricted on space so am looking for alternative to the standard round duct type carbon filter. I realize that round serves purposes such as surface area and it matches up to round fans.....But, I am trying not to lose any more headroom than I have to. I am thinking a flat triangular shape that uses the back of the top as one side and the top of the back as the other- then I would finish the triangle by creating one flat surface angled from the top and connecting to the back. I would probably use a combination of charcoal pellets and the carbon ac type filter. The top of the back of cab will have two pc fans pulling air out.
To me, it seems like I would save cab height and not have to incorporate ducting. Since I would only be constructing one side of the triangle, I am thinking it would be very easy to have it fold down for filter replacement ---think of how many home windows fold down and in for cleaning.....
so, the question is - Am I missing something by using a flat surface vs the typical cylinder? The overall surface area of carbon would be about 8" x 25". One of my concerns would be if the fans would only pull air through one small area (closest point), but not sure. The pc fans would be the 120mm designed to move 60 cfm each at optimum.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
