Food (hemp seed) Grow Inside

Hey. I've never grown a cannabis plant indoor or outdoor.

When it becomes legal to grow Cannabis in Canada, hopefully soon, I be growing phat dank son. Indoor and outdoor because god dam, I'm so excited to grow this amazing plant. Big fan, huge.
Till then, I am assembling hyro equipment and will get familiar with it via tomatoes and other produce. Like hemp seeds.

To the point, I plan on growing some hemp for food and cooking oil. Fuck the man!
I'm wondering how controllable you can be with pollination indoors.

Speaking from indoor mushroom cultivation, spores can be a major issue. If you get a good batch of contamination in your grow room and don't manage it properly, the released spores will be fucking you till the end of time. Or till you bleaching everything inch of the room and house.

So, would 1 male hemp plant, gone to pollen, ruin or compromise future grows in that room?

For food, not cloths. These are pricey, $13/lb. Absolutely super food. I've eaten the, for years, including using the oil for cooking. I'm sure a male and a couple females could produce many pounds given they are the right genetics. It's no bounty like MJ but compare it to tomatoes it is a cash crop.

My grandma told me stories about having cannabis growing up. Her family brought it with them from Ukraine when them immigrated to Canada some 100+ years ago. They always kept a good plot next to the house. It was mainly for food and oil, but also medicine. I'm sure they smoked it for fun, but not so much as they were moon shiners as well. One day the 5.0 were there on an unrelated topic and seized and threatened and that was then end of it. Anyways.

You need a lot of hemp plants to grow enough seeds to get any amount. I order my Hemp Hearts by the case for $9/lb. Will cost you way more than that to grow them and without proper permits that you can't get you are as in as much trouble almost as you would be growing pot.

Hemp oil sux for cooking too. Smokes at low temp and turns into a thick goo in the pan. Ok for baking but has a strong flavour you may not like. Coconut oil is way better and better for you too.

Grow opium poppies. Legal to grow but not to process. :)

I've had these hemp seeds for a few years now. Never did anything with them because like y.ou said, same penalty as growing ganja. I suppose there's no point taking a risk for $50 worth of hemp hearts.

Funny you should mention poppies. I ordered a bunch of poppy seeds when I ordered the hemp seeds back when. They are just sitting around, may as well grow them. The last time I attempted I was working out of town for extended periods and my wife let the seedlings die....on purpose.

My mom always had poppies around the yard. I filed the tines of a fork to scratch the heads so the milk leaked out then dries up. Scrape that off and mix it in with a bowl of bud and the high is amazing. The opiates are all through the plant and can be extracted but it's more concentrated in the sap. The heads can be dried then ground up and made into a mildly narcotic tea that is very popular to ease aches and pains in the large Indonesian population out Vancouver way. Cops catch lots of it coming into the country labeled, ornamental dried flowers.

When I was about 15 my cousin in Van took me to an old style opium den and holy crap. The poppies all over the Vancouver area were initially brought over by the Chinese immigrants and grow everywhere out there.

Like coca leaves the Mayas like to chew to get the same effect that a strong cup of coffee gives. When these plants are used in the traditional manner they don't cause any more problems than our addiction to coffee does. Mainly made illegal through lobbying by Big Pharma to protect their toxic versions of the factory produced poor copies of the same thing.

The website, Erowid has lots of info about all sorts of mind altering substances including opium. Lots about opium here.

I've only tried opium tea once, sitting in a bamboo hut beside the Mekong river in Laos. it was just great. I'm sure the setting made it 30% better than it was. And now time has made it another 30% better. Good shit.

Always wanted to go to places like Laos in peacetime. That link I gave you isn't as good as this one for info on poppies and other plants.

Same site, different page.

I've had a package of poppy seeds laying around for years and thanks to that site now know that they are the wrong type. Now I'm all hot to get the right ones and get some growing! :D

If you plan on growing for seed you might want to start out with a strain that's known for larger seeds/calyxs. I know 'big bud' has some huge seeds, bout the size of a pea. Compare that to some thai's/sativa's that I've grown that have seeds about half the size of a bb. I think starting out with a large seed will make a huge difference in seed yields. You could even start breeding for larger seeds and create a niche market for your hemp genetics.
