Fool Proof Way to Sprout Your Seeds

Supplies you will need:

Book you will never use. (hopefully not the bible)
Plastic ziplock bag
Paper towel
Water heater

Fold the paper towel about four times and soak it. open it up just one fold and put your seeds in the paper towel folded. Close it and put the square paper towel in the ziplock bag. Now put a book on your water heater and place the ziplock bag on top of the book.

The heat from the water heater will warm the towel and seeds. The seeds will think it is summer because of the warmth.

Leave them like this for two days and you should see some really good sprouts.

This is the best way to crack seeds in my opinion.
Never put seed packets on water heater with out the ziplock bag. They will dry out!!!!

ALWAYS use the ziplock bag. This will guarantee the seeds stay soaked.

Happy growing!:peace:

hmm...a tutorial on something that has been known and gone over since id say the early 60's....there are probably 10,000 threads on here saying that same thing...moisture...heat...germinate. but thanks for covering that for anyone that does not have access to google on their PC.....but too add to that...they dont need to be soaked...just moist.
and lets not forget this is one of MANY ways to germ seeds...most real growers just put it right in the soil...some put them in a glass of water...if you have real genetics and are not wasting time with bag seeds...then most know their seeds will germ without human interference.

lol .....down dj down !! be careful he bites you know ...... Thats just dj's way of saying Welcome to RIU ! Thank you for your input ... but dj has a good point in the fact that really has been covered well here at riu . Feel free to read the post for beginners and add anything you wish or feel wasnt covered well enough .. but I think youll find that from the great efforts of hundreds of collective growers ( rollitup members ) with years of exp. ..... that the basics of growing has been very well covered . Browse around and read up - there is a lot of good info: here .... once again welcome to RIU !

I like to soak my seeds for a few minutes then sow in a small container filled with moist soil. When i was just getting started i remember trying out a bunch of different methods. Most of them work just fine. I've just gone with what works for me. Another trend thats getting a lot of atttention on a few gardening forums is a method called winter sowing. It's worth Googling if you have a few minutes to kill.

I kept my seeds from last year. A lot of them didn't sprout and a lot did.

If I sow them in dirt its a guess whether or not they are sprouting.

If I use this method then it works every time. I take the ones that DO sprout and toss the ones that don't.

If it has been covered so well, I wonder why people are still loosing seeds failed attempts.....

I guess history sometime HAS to repeat it self.... maybe? :peace:
