Freezing your buds ?

I've heard every bud is frozen at one point in time. Would it make sense if after I trimmed all my buds from my plant to freeze them ? I know many chemical changes take place at harvesting time but I am asking this because it would seem like an easy method rather then dedicating a room with the perfect air flow and temp to do this. Any feedback ? Thanks.

i wouldnt freeze em after harvest.....jar em up.....i mean you can freeze em ut putting em in a jar will give your bud a better taste

Don't freeze them until you've cured them completely. The more water in the bud the more freezing them will cause trouble. Imo freezing is only for long term storage. Even then, if not done right it will effect the buds.

Hmm alright so i just throw all the trimmed buds into a sealed jar ? wouldn't they get moldy if there all clumped up in a closed jar with no air flow ?

No man. you got to dry them first. Then put em in the jars to cure. Don't freeze them until you have them dried and cured. Do not put freshcut buds in the freezer.

This is correct because if you freeze them and they still have excessive moisture in them, you run the risk of them getting freezer burned. Personally, I would'nt even put bone dry nugs in the freezer, but the fridge is okay.

what is the process of drying and curing though. i've read many guides and they all say it takes between 2 week to a few months for a complete process but i do not have the place to do it with air flow, a constant temp and everything so what would be the next best suggestion ? thanks

ever read the faq on drying and curing if not then you should good info. it takes abot a week to dry and a few weeks to as long as you want to cure...

alright thanks. and i dont see how the bud doesnt get moldy in the jar...unless its already dried b4 it goes in.

it is already dried before it goes in the jar.. like allday said, just check the faq on drying/ curing. dried for about a week, until most stems will snap instead of bending. then it goes into the jars for the cure.. and yes if it is too wet when it goes into the jar you could have mold problems

Its like anything with this hobby, you gotta watch em.

I open my cure jars every day or two, check the buds for moisture, if they moisten up after a few days in the jar then take them out for 12 hours or so and put them back in the jar.

Its rather easy to know, I just compare them to how your bag from the dope man feels, if they are wetter and spongier than the dope mans, then you are too wet, dry them out more, if they are too dry and crumble, then you need to wet them up, a humidity pad (like for cigars) for a few hours in the jar helps moisten dry buds. But dont re-moisten till you are getting close to the end of your cure, you will find buds are dry on the outside but still moist in the middle till a couple weeks into curing. Bust one up and you'll see what I mean.

Good advice Kush Guy. I like to keep a little piece of damp paper in my bag just to keep it fresh, so it doesn't turn to dust.

For long term storage - once it's cured - a humidor would work, or you can use one of those food savers (the ones that suck all the air out. But the bud has to be fully cured.

If you want to store buds for a longer period of time, get a canning jar, the fuller you can keep it the better, I have seen bud last a month or more without drying out.

If it does dry out some, I use the humidity pad from a humidor (you can buy them for about $5) and a sealing jar from Ikea (another $5) and throw the bud in there for a about 4-12 hours depending on how dry or how much bud there is. If its an ounce or two that is getting dry, moisten half and leave the other half dry, once you put them back in the same jar together they will even out humidity after a day or two.

I dont know who these dipwads are that spit facts and knowledge, you can most certainly "freeze dry" your buds. The humidity level is much lower in your freezer and that will suck everybit of moisture out of your %80 water buds. No ice will form on the bud as long as they are hanging clear of any drippage during a possible defrost mode. The water will sublimate into the air. The aroma of the bud can be tainted by a smelly freezer, so make sure you have a new box of arm and hammer in there. Otherwise i think it preserves the aroma better than traditional drying techniques, because the oxidizers, funguses, and bacteria in the air are swimming quite happily at 60-75 degrees, the average house temperature, and they are rather immobile and non-existent in a freezer.

Lets show love to the guy who shows up to the party 45 days late. igot, seriously, sure you "can" freeze your buds, but were talking about what is a good idea and what isnt. Freeze some nice moist chicken and watch it freezer burn, you want freezer burnt weed? Really, what do you think happens to chicken as it "dries" in the freezer, its called freezer burn!!!

Dipwads, really necessary. Everyone has an opinion, some of our opinions are based on experience and biology, others arent. Lets leave the personal insults out of it if you dont agree, lets discuss, but because you "think" you have a good idea doesnt "make" it a good idea.

Quit trying to preach and instigate some BS based on your opinion, no one here wants to hear it.

You need to dry your nuggets first by hanging and keeping a temp, airflow, and humidity. you could have a little drying box with a carbon filter on it. Then to cure you put in the jar. opening the jar several times a day for the first few weeks then sealing it and leaving it in a dark place.

It is partially/mostly dried once it goes into the jar after your drying time. You want your stems to bend with a little pop in them, then you take them and put them into your jar. You open the jar to redistribute your buds and to check for mold every day, a few times a day at first, then you can space it out after you have a good cure going.

Note*

A good cure really will bring out the best of your bud, so please be patient!

listen son, before you talk to me, you better open up a book or ten. Freezer burn takes weeks even months to onset. We are talking about drying out weed in 3-5 days. you are a nincompoop. you have no empirical data to back up anything, you are just mad because i disagreed with you.

Should i call the whaaaambulance?
