Fresh Cut lawn smell of marijuana

I live in Las Vegas where it is very dry. The first two plants I harvested were dried in a closet for about 10 days and when I took them down they were extremely dry and brittle. Still smokes good, though. To avoid that, a friend told me to put the buds in a glass container after two to three days of drying in my closet. I did that, even though not all the branches snapped. However, everytime I open the jar, it smells like fresh cut lawn. Now he tells me that to get rid of that smell I should boil the glass jars with the buds inside to sweat out the chlorophil. He told me to open the jar, then place it in the refrigerator, then boil them again. Does that sound right? Please help. Thanks.

I've never heard of this method of curing. It may or may not work. I can't speak based on experience so I don't want to give you an answer besides try it. :)

But if you don't want to risk your crop, you should just try curing the traditional way. Jar the buds keep them in a cool dark place, let them exchange gasses a few times daily for the first week, and then slowly reduce amount of fresh air exchange they get. If they are too try already you can add moisutre back to the buds by jarring them with a peel of fruit or some fan leaves.

Heat degrades potency.

I have the same issue. Nothing you can do with your current crop.

In the future try different dry times (shorter 3 days) maybe just the buds on a rack, Jar, If they are still too wet (after 24hrs), Repeat... dry for 24 hrs then jar and check again.

Open your jars out a fee times a day for about an hour each time. Store then in a cool dark place. grassy smell will go away.

yeah I agree. Open them every day, if the buds feel overly moist, than leave the jar open for an hour or maybe even a little longer depending on how moist to let them dry out a bit. When they get to the point that you open the jar and they are at the moisture level you like, start just burping the jars once a day by opening them for 10 secs or so and closing it back up. Do that for a couple weeks and the smell you are gonna get will have pretty much come out at this point. Make sure you check the jars often in the beginning, if mold sets in you will be sorry. If the buds feel too wet after a day or so in the jar you put em in too early and may want to put em out to dry for another day or so.

it sounds like you already overdried them, i would keep them in the jars with a hygrometer and only open the jars if it exceeds 65% humidity

I would not take the advice of your friend.... Good advice here. I keep my humidity at 48-55% and let them dry to the touch. The smaller branches break a bit more easily but the main branches mostly bend with some rigidity and maybe a slight crack. Usually 7-12 days is plenty and upon putting the buds into jars I also like to open them 20 minutes to 1 hour per day for the first week or two. If your bud is over dried I would also use some fan leaves to rehydrate. I can't think of anything better to use. If you no longer have access to fan leaves I would avoid fruit rinds and use small amounts of lettuce since this is mostly water and does not add any particular odor or flavor. I doubt you would even have to make contact with the buds to do this. VERY small amounts for short periods of time. Usually when dried, jarred and opened every day the odor you're talking about should go away without any further efforts.... After just a couple days the buds take on a smell that make me smile. There is a possibility that you harvested too early or have minimal bud development too. I've seen underdeveloped crops and buds that were harvested too early hold onto the chlorophyll characteristics.

I would never use the method your friend suggested. "Sweating" out the chlorophyll sounds like a good way to completely ruin your crop.

hi, noob question but what equipment do you use to configure the humidity in your grow rooms? digital humidifier??? answer = +Rep :)

Bud sniffer, I bought a portable unit that has AC, humidifier and de-humidifier. It was 450 bucks, but it has SAVED MY ASS. I have complete control over EVERY aspect of the environment no matter the weather outside. :)

-------As for the boiling your weed in jars.....NO NO NO NO!!!! Why do people do "extra" weird shit to their weed? Don't fuck up what THC you have in those "grassy buds". You dried it too quick, or pulled immaturely. I had a Sour Diesel that happened to. Smelled like grass/hay. Yuck. I jarred it, put it in a dark closet for about 2 months and forgot about it. Last night I remembered, pulled it out and had a smell/smoke. The grassy taste/smell is gone and the weed has an overall better and more flavorful palate and high. If you can't afford to put it away for awhile you may just have to deal with the grassy smell......or make hash....mmmmmmmm :)
