Fungus knats or root aphid

Thx for all the help the only confusing thing to me is knowing the difference between the two. Online it says aphids have a distinct tailpipe coming off the end ?? When you look at both it’s hard to tell just curious what really makes the difference

While looking at them on a sticky trap it’s pretty easy to tell the difference based off body length in correspondence to wing length. The gnat will have wings the same length if not very close to the same length of the body. The tail and wings are pretty much equal. While looking at a root aphid the body stops at the halfway point of the wings, the wings will stick out noticeably further than its body length.
 
With root aphids you get lots of these crawlers in addition to the winged fukers. The bodies of both are short and round. They are evil at every stage.
