Gavita pro 1000 de fried?

Plugged my gavita into a new timer which is plugged into a surge protected extension cable with 4 input terminals.

As I plugged it in it tripped all the sockets in the house. Thought nothing much of it. Went to the fuse box and flicked the switch for the sockets.

Everything came on but the gavita, left it to cool for an hour, nothing. Went out for the day and it's still not working. Not the plug fuse, or kettle plug. Switched both out. No hum or dink sound when I plug it in, nothing.

Surely a 550 cash light fixture is protected against this? I bought it second hand so no proof of purchase thus guarantee

Any chance its the bulb? Could an electrical repair guy fix this?

Mad face

You had to reset multiple breakers? Or just one breaker?

Sounds like it's dead. If it was just a bulb the breakers wouldn't trip. They aren't really repairable like the old school ballasts, youd need a bench tech to diagnose what went out, likely an IGBT is fried, a $10 part but one has to be able to find that faulty component and replace it. If you find a bench tech that can fix it one should expect to pay about $100 for the service plus parts.

Just the one breaker. I paid 180 cash and know it's not even a year old, but they retail for 550

I have a local electrical repair guy I might try. Can't believe what's supposed to be the gold standard of lights would fry so easily. Lesson learned, just glad I didn't buy a new one

Read about problems with different types of timers with these lights before hooking it up again if you repair it.

Everything is made in China nowdays and quality does suffer. This is a good reason to NOT spend extra for "the best". Sometimes it's not really much better than just ordinary.

Also shit breaks, you never know how many hours of use it had before you got it. I am sorry to hear that your ballast fried. Perhaps your buddy can fix it, if not you have a good fishing boat anchor.
