Try to turn the tap on so little it drips quickly. I used a small plate with the seeds between 2 paper towels that were folded in quarters.

When I moisten the PTs I hold it under a quick dripping stream of tap water until 1/2-3/4 of the paper towel looks freshly wet.

Note, when using a plate, I noticed the beginnings of mold after a week, so I switched to a small tupperware container with the same method.

Just squeeze it a little so the majority of the water gets removed. And I'm guessing you're not using Bounty cause that stuff's strong :P

ok.. been around doing alot of reading.. this is my first post, so if I'm wrong, someone with some cred tell me to shut up, and tell me where to read differently.. but.. how about a sprayer?.. you put distilled water in it, and lift the saran wrap from around your plate, and spritz the top of the paper towel to moisten.
I don't know, seems like it would control moisture better than soaking a paper towel and then wringing it out. You could damage the seed doing that.. no?
anyway.. GL.

You're not supposed to have the seeds in the paper towel while ringing it out.

Most seeds won't require re-wetting the paper towel after the first time.

Cowell your right. Its not rocket science to think to use a sprayer if you towells are ripping.. No offence like but it aint

Anyways, since it's pretty much on this topic, I have a question.

How big should the exposed root of a germinated seed be, before planting it in the medium?

I dont see how you cant get the towel "too" wet.

I did my first MJ germ by soaking (completely submerging in water) 4 seeds in cups over 24-48 hrs. All 4 popped. I am not very exp'd with MJ but I have sprouted many other other kinds of seeds before this way. After doing some lurking, I have read that many other successful growers here do the same.

As far as how long - as soon as you see any kind of tap root (say, 1/4th the size of the seed or bigger) they are ready for medium. Make sure to keep it moist.

ok..again like I said, I'm new, I watched the mr green vid where he threw the seeds in water, so that's how I just started mine in a cup of water, then read further that you are supposed to use a paper towel to germ as it can be better controlled as far as not drowning your seeds etc... not meaning to insult the intelligence of anyone on here, just some people don't know- I was one who didn't know this way up till recently when I did it for the first time, just trying to help.
