When germinating seeds, I have had the best results using a bandana within a ziplock bag. I soak the bandana, wring out the excess and fold it a couple times. I cover the remaining area with non-knicked and unsoaked seeds within the final fold. Slip the folded bandana into a ziplock bag with as much air removed as possible. They germinated within 24 hours and the following day, the taproots were more than an inch long.
What I noticed in using a bandana, as opposed to paper towel or an ordinary dish cloth, is the texture, the threads are weaved very tight and the taproots do not penetrate the cloth. This forces all the taproots to lay next to eachother within the final fold and makes it extremely easy to grab the seeds as they are not stuck throughout the fabric. Give it a shot next time if you've got an old snotty hanky lyin' around!
