Glass tubing

I'm hoping to construct a cooltube. however I haven't been able to find a suitable piece of glass yet. I have seen plenty of DIY cooltube tutorials using bake-arounds and candle holder thingys(technical term) from craft stores. These however are not what I'm looking for. It seems to me that somewhere There is someone selling 6" outer diameter glass tubing. So members of RIU I ask you has anyone found a source for 6" glass tubing? Thanks in advance

best I found was 5 1/2. It's a little short but works. It was a pain to fill in that 1/2 of space.

I used foil tape the thick stuff. got them from save on crafts.com. lol I've been asked before where I got them and didn't remember. I forgot I still had new glass in the box it came in. at least the 5.5 glass takes the big bulbs.

(6in wide by 12in long)

maybe i can talk to a glass blower and make some $$ off of this

I am a glass blower...but I'm not understanding the thread between you two

Whatya mean by the "1/2 difference"?

All you need is a pyrex tube of glass thats 5.5 inch in diameter correct?

You can buy tubes in 4 foot lengths and just crack them at the desired length.

Am I misunderstanding?

how much are cool tubes from hydro suppliers?

cuz the tube from a glass manufacturer is gonna be prolly $40 for 4 feet.

frist let me clear some things up
i dont know what tthe fuck im talking about, i have yet to go hps , but will some day
and when that day comes i plan on doing a cool tube vert

he had stated that his duct was 6 but the tube was 5.5
so i wanted to know how did he make an air tight seal
so that the cooltube can best work

I talked to a local guy said. it would cost to much to blow them. shape size temper. or maybe he didn't want to try it.

Ok you blow glass and you say that you can just crack a 5.5in tube in half?????

not over my knee or anything, but yes you score it and use a rod and a drop of water to crack it

and I just looked up pricing, the only tubes I can find that are 150mm (6 inch) are about $95 each, so about $20 EACH 12INCH LENGTH.

Better off just paying $50 on ebay and getting the reflector and duct ends on it Imo

I think he is full of shit i blow glass for a living and i no that you cant brake a peace that big by just scoring it and cracking it it will not ever come out straight. NO WAY NOT BY HAND.

It's all about how much you want to spend. Cooltubes through a distributor are more cost effective, currently, as the distributor is buying them in bulk. The average home grower generally doesn't have the funds to make it workable. 6 inches comes to around 150mm -- a 155mm ID x 3mm thick wall x 5 ft fused quartz glass (fused quartz glass has some of the highest levels of light transmission as compared to other types of glass, be it borosilicate or soft glass) comes to around $800. I don't know anyone with 800 bucks to throw at a 5ft tube that could break if mishandled. Smaller tubes are more affordable, but still out of the realm of the average grower. Your best bet if you want a budget cooltube is going to be to find something similar to a glass tube, and use / modify it as such.

heres a thought
why even use glass tube............... (i know,,, there round)
but what if you get a sheet of flat glass and have it cut into 4 - 1ft by 5in slabs then find some way to put all for pieces together that will be heat resistant , something like a cool square shaped tube this will still alow you to grow on all sides for those vert. grower and grow flat out like in hor. growing

but i could be over thinking it
