[h=2]Senator says holiday 'divides Americans'[/h]In his release, Grothman called for the holiday to be "slapped down."
"Of course, almost no black people today care about Kwanzaa — just white left-wingers who try to shove this down black people's throats in an effort to divide Americans," Grothman said. "Irresponsible public school districts such as Green Bay and Madison ... try to tell a new generation that blacks have a separate holiday than Christians."

have you ever beenthere?
"At 6.6% it has 3 times the black population density of the rest of Oregon State..."It's a "Lily-white" city and the rest of the State is only 2.2% Black...ie. there's only slightly more black people there than there is here in Dublin. But ok, ok, "you is black"... Happy?

It's irrelevant how many people celebrate Kwanzaa.
As an elected official he is supposed to represent everyone in his district. Not ridicule them.

OUTSIDE MILWAUKEE, WI -- Calling it a holiday that "almost no black people today care about," state Sen. Glenn Grothman is characterizing Kwanzaa as a false holiday conjured up by a racist college professor and perpetuated by hard-core liberals.
"Why must we still hear about Kwanzaa?" the Republican lawmaker from West Bend asked in a press release. "Why are hard-core left wingers still trying to talk about Kwanzaa — the supposed African-American holiday celebration between Christmas and New Year’s?"

Iv always wondered, why "African American" rather than just "American"?Seems pretty divisive to me.

Just because he's right, that's not the point?

The first time I heard about Kwanzaa was about 20 years ago. I was at a Christmas craft fair buying my lesser relatives presents. One booth had these hippys selling: hemp is,better than cotton, Jamaican knit hats and Kwanzaa awareness crafts. This was at Lutheran ELCA church. The booth had late 20s and early 30s white people wearing tie dyed shirts. There was 99% white anglo saxon protestants.

I asked my grandmother at the time what was Kwanzaa. She told me it was a failed attempt for black people who were jealous of Jesus to get their own holiday around Christmas because they felt left out.

To this day I still have no idea what Kwanzaa is sbout. I don't care to know either. All I do know is it's an excuse for butthurt white liberals to use as a rally call against racism. I haven't met a single black person who wished me a happy Kwanzaa.

If I were black, I'd be pissed white people were making up we celebrated some holiday and we didn't.

If the blacks thought about it differently they'd do what we do and capitalise on a made up holiday...and use it as a day to get really drunk and take drugs.

St Patricks Day...St "So Drunk Im Walking (using that term loosely) Down The Centre of the Road" Day.

How about he just shut his bigoted ass mouth up

Would you not think its a public officials "duty of care" to call bullshit when calling bullshit is due?

Isn't it a lack of this that is the problem with the current democratic system in the Western World?

Who is he to decide what celebrations are valid
As a public servant. He should keep those views to himself

maybe grothman should investigate St Patricks day.

Or he should be allowed speak honestly, "the people" did elect the guy.

Funny how the side who claims to be for equality uses the PC brigade as its hit squad on people who don't agree.

The irony is delicious.

EDIT: Imagine Martin Luther King Jnr hadn't been allowed "speak his mind"?

So how come Scotland and Wales never had any problems with snakes?
Maybe Grothman can investigate
