Glyphosate in chicken poop used as fertilizer is hurting food production, researchers say

Just stumbled across this article in my news feed. Something to be aware of, I know a lot of organic farmers use chicken manure/poultry litter as fertilizer. This is an example of one of the reasons I have switched to veganic. The food web is complex and using animal waste as fertlizer adds complexity unless you know exactly what they were fed. Same thing was a concern of mine with bat guano since a lot of native bat populations are now feeding on GMO crops that were sprayed with roundup.

Interesting paper, thank you. I didn't know GBH could be so persistent as to pass through the digestive process and end up in manure that in turn will negatively affect plant growth. I learned something new today. Umm... that means when we eat many industrialized agricultural goods, that GBH likely persists all the way through our digestive tract too. Oh my.

The reason I always avoided most animal-based manures was because of salinity, and sodium chloride is the last thing I want a buildup of in my indoor no-till. Luckily most organic certification programs where I live mandate the use of organically certified feed. That means organically certified chicken poop must come from organically certified chickens, which must be fed organically certified feed. That still doesn't help with the salinity issue, but it's not so bad with chicken manure as it is with manure that comes from beef feedlots.
