Good replacement sponges

A new bag of replacement grow sponges seem to be around 25+ bucks. How-to.com talked about using hair roller sponges but they don't seem to soak up water very well. Any cheap alternatives that can be bought at non-specialty shops? Thanks...hope this was the right section for this. By the way, I'm using an aerogarden classic 7 if it matters.

I've found this via google, not sure if they'll work though.

So when cutting the pieces, do you cut it so it is the whole size of the pod?

I've been using the sure to grow loose fill in my Aerogarden and my dwc bubbleponics system. This is all I use now!

Looks like there are none close by to me :-/

I might retry the hair rollers. I think I was mistakenly under the assumption that the sponge is supposed to become soaked with the dripping water...but it's just the root right? If so then the hair sponges probably will work...they already have a hole in the middle of them.
