Good Shade Plants??

what are some good plants/flowers that take well to tons of shade in the spring/summer and get a bit more sunlight during the end of summer/fall seasons?

also is their a site that has a listing for ALL plants/fruits? i inherited my grandmas house and she has this huge bush looking plant that is starting to bare these hard green looking fruits but they are hella bitter. also are their any other good forums i could check out for more detailed gardening stuff? like i said i inherited this house and as a new years resolution i want to get it back to how my grandma had it when i was a kid.

Hey man post your pic of the mystery bush and myself, or others, will help you identify it. I'm an avid gardener and I use the website, Dave's Garden, a lot. They're crazy knowledgeable and I've acquired a ton of plants through people on there. Good luck to you.

At the beginning of the season you just need to buy a couple trays of Impatiens and a good sprinkler. Give them lots of water all year long in your full shade spot. Water them every day, they like being cool. The more showy New Guinea hybrids grow slower but tend to have larger flowers and take less neglect to kill. They propagate super easy if you like playing with clones.

DO not grow near tomato's, due to risk of tobacco mosaic. This plant is a bug killing machine. Let them come. All pest bugs that sample the sweet leaf juices are promptly executed.

As for the plant life that's there already... take a small branch with a few leaves on it to a local garden center. Most likely the plant came from a garden center, and they should be able to identify it.

k so i also forgot to mention that at nite both plants in question give a very interesting aroma! i think its like a mellow sweet fruity guava smell but she thinks its cat pee.

anyways heres the pic of the first fruit
its rock hard has a layer of fuz and when i cut it in half it very much resembles an apple but has a dry taste to it, very light sweetness



the other plant seems grow more like an actual tree. this is the one that gives said aroma i mentioned above. they seem to only grow the lil fruits around this time an come on the branch in lil 3 fruit sacks. these are small soft and smell just like guava. these are also edible. my dogs like cleaning up the ground around with the ones that fall.



also are the fruits on cactus edible? my girl dog is a dummy and likes to pick these and fling them in the air and chase it.

Yes. Grocery stores in the Southwest often sell them.

Christmas Cactus is toxic to dogs. Yours look like Prickly Pear, so you should be OK. Eating catus without first carefuly removing the stickers, and the smaller hair like glochids {the little bumps} would not be very comfortable... so the dog will be unlikely to eat it. At least not the whole thing.

yea well i know the cactus those fruits came from are edible because my grandma when we were kids used to cut a slab off and make some eggs and some tortillas and salsa for breakfast. all these trees i have are at least 20 years old because my grandma had the house before i was born and we have pictures with me and my cousins as kids playing around the trees.

The first fruit looks something like a type of pear and sounds like you tried it when it was not ripe I could be wrong, the second one with all the seeds in the middle looks like a Dosakai or Yellow Apple Cucumber but I couldn't really find anything about it.The third is a picture of a Prickly Pear Cactus and they have a wonderful flavor. Its like a strawberry kiwi watermelon mix!

i was thinkin the first fruits werent ripe either but they are starting to drop on the ground as if they were ripe.

the 'dosakai' fruit i think u might be right but i cant find pictures of the trees themselves or better pics of the fruit to compare.

after i googled the cactus fruits i wanna go pick them all off now and try them.! i knew they had to be edible cuz like i said my girl dog likes flinging them in the air, which makes sense now if she was trying to rough all the needles off! smart dog!

I used to hike through central Texas, and would occasionally take the time eat prickly pears. It really is a pain in the ass to remove all the stickers, and really time consuming-- but they're tasty. If you don't get them all off, you'll know it!

yea the prickly pears i pulled one off and rolled it in the dirt as google suggested to remove the stuff, then i peeled the skin off, wow they are good! i wouldnt say a strawberrry taste, its more of a watermelon. quite good!

now to figure those other 2
