Grafting Marijuana

I have read a few posts on grafting marijuana, which never really went to the usage I think when I consider grafting.

They never mentioned the best use I can think of. Having a single mother plant with all of your favorite strains.

Maybe I'm stoned and overthinking this, but after a harvest, if I left a branch and grafted a clone or 2 onto the already established root system, would the root system die from finishing its grow or would it accept the new growth and stay alive? Not having to regrow a new root system everytime seems like it would expedite the process of cloning.

Do some research on regeneration or re-vegging.Not the same as what your dong,but may shed some light and help.I have not personally done it so will not comment on anything.Had a friend who was doing it years ago.

It will not speed up the process. Grafting itself takes quite some time and the plant will still require time to grow after healing. It’s mainly done with strains/clones that struggle developing roots. Your strains you want to graft (scions) will need to be similar in flowering time and nutritional requirements.

Interesting, I also have always wondered how well it would work with cannabis. I do remember when actual grow books made of paper were still around that one old grow book I had mentioned grafting a cannabis plant to an already established Hops plant. If memory serves it was because the hops and cannabis plant are very closely related. But has anyone ever actually documented it? Now I know wine makers have been grafting grape plants together in vineyards forever. Could work on what you mean about strain crossing? Good change of topics though here on RIU lately!:bigjoint:

Interesting topic ....

I got a couple of plants getting close to chop and have slowed in drinking. So wonder if one were to take a few cuttings , maybe even different ones and “ graft “ it to stalk with aloe Vera or gel dip then use wax to seal it on and wrap.

Wonder if it would FUSE like a stem break. Or even knuckle

You would probably need to leave some of the leaves and branches on the rootstock plant and reveg. But as far as grafting cannabis it can be done just as it's done with other plants and trees. There is nothing special about a cannabis plant that makes it anymore difficult than say a tomato or apple tree.

I would imagine it's doable but since it's not a tree would it be worth the time and effort when it has a more limited lifespan?

Don't know if it's been suggested, but I've wondered if grafting might be a way to use males from regular seed batches. Instead of composting the males --- which galls me to no end after putting in 6 weeks cultivating the suckers -- just use them as established root stock to graft on cuttings from females. No idea how long it takes a graft to take, but if it's just 2-3 weeks, seems like having a mature root system would give cuttings a huge leg up. Dunno if it's worth it, but I might give it a try with my current -- and last -- batch of seedlings from regular seeds.

I think the concept was with limited plant numbers , you could keep a few differents strains(mothers) on one plant and it only counted as one plant.

Like it takes 3 months start to finish to get a harvest - probably why its unheard of to graft. Peyote onto lophor. (fucking hard cacti to spell) is great since peyote takes an age and lophor. dosent but cannabis is far to quick to ever take any intrest in grafting past a fun idea im guessing :-)
