Grassy smell while in jars? Am I doing this right? Please Help!

I cut my plants down on Friday the 25th. I hung them to dry in a cardboard box with 2 semi large holes and a minifan blowing into one of the holes. After about 4 days they where pretty dry on the outsides so I cut them and put them into jars. I been opening the jars every 2 hours or so and leaving them open for about 10mins then closing them back up.

Every jar smells kinda grassy...
Now I know people suggest curing for another 2 weeks in the jars, and maybe thats what I need to wait for till they stop the grassy smell.
But I'd like to know, should they smell grassy at this point?

After putting them in the jars they have gotten moister on the outsides again (I haven't seen a drop of moisture condensation on the sides of the jars as I have read alot of people saying they get from putting them into the jars), id assume because they are confined in the jar the moisture has come out.

Anyone give me some input? This is my first grow and I just want to make sure im doing this right.

Memaw, did you plant have the pot smell before you harvested? Mine didn't. It had that grass smell all along. That worries me. I spent several hours researching this and learned a couple things. It could just be the strain. Some don't smell at all. It could also be the chlorophyll breaking down and that's what you are smelling - the marijane smell would return after a few weeks. It also could be shit, dirt weed with very little THC. The only sure way to tell is to smoke it. Good luck.

hearmenow,

1: It did not smell like this grassy smell till a day after they where in the jars. They did have the nice pot smell on and off throughout flower some days it would be STRONG some days I could barley notice the smell.
2: I have a bunch of diffrent strains, you cant tell me they all smell the same. (Every jar smells grassy)
3: 90% of them are strains I got from nirvana seeds so yeah no shit dirt weed here (I hear the shit dirt weed is how u dry and such not the plant itself)

I would say it's the chlorophyl breaking down that you are smelling. I've read several reports by other growers (not on here) where they had the same thing happen. Within a couple weeks, you'll notice that familiar marijane smell returning. Just make sure you vent your jars a couple times a day initially to release the chlorophyll gases.

The grassy smell is the Chlorophyl.
The chlrophyl is what makes the grass on a fresh cut lawn smell like it does.

The chlorophyl will evaporate.
It is just overpowering the weed smell for now.
After 3-4 weeks of curing in the jars this will go away.

As for the condensation in the jar.
If you are opening every two hours as you said then the condensation will not have time to build up.

This is one of the main reasons all the talk about water curing have been going on.
The water cure allows the chlorophyl to be leached out of the bud and into the water.
It is just a quicker way of getting to the finish.
It does have some pros and cons though.

Hoped this helped

if you dried too fast it will turn to hay!

this is from rapid removal of mositure, if your bud is dry on the outside after 4 days your dring too fast

to make your buds smoke better try keeping the plants moist enough to allow the plant structures to break down to simple sugars. if your in containers after 4 days what you smell is most likely what your getting!

If you put a bud in a jar which is still damp enough to cause condensation, it's also damp enough to cause mould- which will destroy all your hard work.

Never, ever put a damp bud in a sealed container.

They have been in the jars for 3 days now, and as I said its NOT producing moisture on the sides of the jar. So I guess thats a good thing..

Who is right? midgrade just said give it a few weeks and it will loose the smell, now your telling me the complete opposite...

I had 1 plant that was semi moist on the outside I threw it in a jar too the same day as the rest. That one smells the same as a rest, so I don't think what your saying about it drying too fast is completely right..

Plus I have already taken some and quick cured it in the microwave and it smokes/smells fine after that... No hay smell/taste..

don't worry when you out your weed into jars it is still breaking down chlorofil and other things. Just leave your jars open a little longer. In a month it will taste so good

I flushed them with water only for 2 weeks, so theres no issues there.
Fuck it, il just keep em in the jars for a while and see what happens.

The grass smell will go away. Some smell more like grass than others, as in sativas over indicas. Some stuff is unsmokable for 2-3 weeks... Then again I slow cure..

My bud also has that grassy smell except when I break it open it smells like the skunk that I know it is. I know it has a high thc level, the only time it really had a smell was when I was growing it or now was when I squeezed a bud or now when I break one open. Am I ok?

Is there much leaf matter in ur buds this can add to the grassy smell as someone said the chlorophyl is what gives it that grassy smell and curing it will deplete the chlorophyl give it a month and should be all good. Just got to be patient, theres a saying that goes "All good things come to those who wait". Just got to ride it out.
