I'm just going to grow in some soil from home depot (potting soil) and I wanted to know if a growing medium like perlite or stones are really that important?? Was just going to use Miracle Grow as nute, or just no nute at all?

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

i use that soil also but i supplement it with perlite, worm caseings, and i use polymer crystals to hold water. the perlite is so that your soil doesn't compact. don't use ferts until at least 3 weeks old. i use MG, but at 1/4 the recomened amount for the first 3 weeks then go for it, full dose to the recomended water,

I had really good luck with a soilless mix of 1/3 perlite, 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 peat moss. VERY light and hard to overwater.

we have a hard time getting Vermiculite here. been told that it has asbestos. kinda late to pull it off the market now. been using that stuff in all kinds of grows.

MG= lack of much needed trace minerals and an unstable NPK value. The BEST medium and combination I have found through experience is: Fox Farms Ocean Forest Soil (1/3 part), Vermiculite (1/3 part), and Perlite (1/3 part).

Using my recommendations you will have a balanced nutrient base and a medium that both holds moisture and allows excess water to easily drain. I hope I helped you out a little bit, if you are just beginning to grow (which I assume). If you need anything else do not be shy! Feel free to msg me with questions!
