Growdrobe help

Before I start great site. I have been doing a LOT of reading.

I've been a busy bunny and built myself a custom growdrobe. It's 2ft x 2ft x 4ft, has a 120mm PC fan for outtake (I know it's bad but it is shifting a LOT of air (even with the CF)), a passive intake and a 4 inch circulator fan pointing straight at the light. The guy at the hydro shop convinced me to get a 250w HPS instead of the CFLs. Sorry I don't have any pics yet. Its nearly finished but I now have a couple of problems.
  1. The temp hits 37C (~93F) in the shade.
  2. With the height of the pots, reflector etc I am only left with about 2ft between the bulb and the top of the pots.
So... should I get a bigger (proper) fan or swap the HPS for some CFLs? And is 2ft enough space? I know there are techniques to keep them short but it seems an insanely small space.

I am leaning towards the CFLs at the moment because the current reflector leaves only a few inches on each side so I can't get ducting round it. I could split this up to have more but smaller reflectors to improve air circulation up the way, and get more growing height as well (maybe ~3ft). What do you guys think?

PS Yield is not a major concern here. An oz lasts about a month.

welcome to roll it up..keep the hps and work with it...now you said 93f "in the sade"..is it out side??? well you can cut the bottom out and rise the cab to about the top of the pots ur growing in..that would get you some height.you can go as high as you want....and get some more or a bigger fan sucking hott air out..to keep it cool..but i whould try and keep the hps unless you realy cant make it work for u...good luck and peace

The cabinet is in the attic. Ventilation is good up there and I'm sure a bigger fan would pretty much sort the temps out.

I am more worried about the height really. I really have no more space up there and I'm looking at max 1.5 ft if I leave a mere 6 inches from plant to bulb. Is it possible to LST or SCROG in that small space?

Get a bigger fan and a carbon filter. You will need the filter for smell during flower. It is worth it to keep the better light. The space is enough. If they get too tall just bend the stalk over (super-topping).

Was doing a bit of browsing and I saw a DIY cool tube today (made of wood mind you :-?). Gave me some ideas.

Because the attic space is triangular I can't make the drobe any taller or raise it. I could however fashion a box to hold just the light and reflector and then separate the 2 boxes with a sheet of glass and put in an extra fan just for the light. With the "cool tube" having it's own ventilation the temps in the drobe should be reduced a good bit and I would also have the extra space as well. :hump:

What do u guys think, good or bad? And if I do make a sealed "box" for the light should I pull air using an outake or push with an intake? I'm really keen to get started but I want to get the environment right first (or as near as possible) to save me trouble in the future.

I dont have an air cooled hood yet. But I think they are a good idea to keep temps down. Ive had good success with just using a high powered in-line fan and carbon filter to exhaust the space. You will still need a pretty strong fan to properly cool the tube.
