yeah need more info.... but i'd clone or seed with fluorescents.. veg with a metal halide and flower with a high pressure sodium... or use both MH and HPS for both stages!!! but wattage all depends on how many plants your growing and the space your growing in!!!

Well it will be almost impossible to hide the smell once it really starts to grow. Hopefully your mom is not the type that goes through your things. So I'd get some good scent cover ups. Also I'd look into CFLs, because unless you're paying the light bill.. they'll be a significant hike in the bill with use of anything else (such as high pressure sodium or metal halide's). List goes on.
