Growing Cannabis In Plain Sand

2 of 5 of the Afghan popped in plain sand, I think the seeds are old. I had a few more seeds of Sour Diesel by 420 started just incase this happened so I would have enough to finish the experiment.

So in the 3 solo cups with sprouts is 2 Afghan planted directly into sand and one SourD that i sprouted and put into the sand. The other two with the domes still havent sprouted and those are Afghans

The other ones in the tiny cups are Sour Diesel in peat. Once these are big enough Im going to put them into their final sand homes. Im only going to veg a couple weeks or so for the experiment and cause my others need to get flipped soon.

So this is what they look like a week later. They are growing slower than the ones in the peat and they are ahead of those by a few days. I added more sand to cover the stem since the last one. Maybe try and give them a very light dose of feed. People say Peat is nutrientless but it does have just under 1% nitrogen and some PK as well so maybe thats why the ones in peat are growing faster or maybe the sand isnt allowing proper airflow, not sure. Either way they look healthy just slow on the go. Ill be transplanting the ones in peat soon into their sand pots, they were extras just incase so not sure what Im going to do with them, maybe put them all in one of the 36 inch window planters with a sand mixture. Ok enough gabbing, here are the championesses.

Peat most certainly will have more nutrition than sand. I love that this is working out so far.

Today Im going to get some sawdust for the sand and sawdust mixture. Im not sure if I want to use grass clippings for the other sand mixture or not, if I do Im going to sterilize the clippings by either boiling or peroxide. Ill post once I transplant. I have a feeling that the seedlings in the solo cups in plain sand are going to take a while before I can transplant into their final sand pots. We'll see how it goes and will update.

Gotta postpone todays project. Little one woke up real sick. Will resume tomorrow.

Ok here we go. So I went out and got the hardwood sawdust from a firewood place down the street (can you believe firewood is $415 a cord, crazy prices) and a bail of peat moss for the Mittleider Gardening method @curious2garden showed me. I didnt use perlite like the recipe asked for but instead used coarse sand with little pebbles in it. The perlite I could find was all Miracle Grow perlite and that has fertilizer in it.

One pot is just play sand and coarse sand 50/50 nothing else
One pot is 50% Coarse sawdust and 50% All purpose and play sand mix by volume
One pot is 50% peat and 50% All purpose and play sand mix by volume

The original Afghans that I had planted in sand are taking their sweet ass time so I wont be transplanting them anytime soon, so I used the 3 Sour Diesel that needed to be transplanted instead for this project. Once the Afghans are ready to be transplanted Ill have to see how much room I have or if Ill just do a solo cup sand grow :bigjoint:

About a week and a half after I transplanted them into their sand pot mixtures.

The one in plain sand is outgrowing the other two in size, the others are a little more compact. The one in plain sand is also a lighter color green. The one with the wood shavings drains too well, so I probably should have used a finer sawdust/shavings.

The ones in the cups I dont know what Im going to do with them but they are in plain sand as well.

Im feeding them all calmag and grow big only at the moment. I feed the one in plain sand every watering. The lights just came on so they are still a little sleepy.

I named them from left to right Sandy, Petra, and Willow :bigjoint: Questions and comments welcome.

It dont suprise me in the early stages sands good it always was the best use for it but you dont see many people using it indoors all the way through so it will be interesting to see how it goes for you mate

I am curious to see as well. I think Ill have a hard time keeping it fed. It doesnt seem to want to uptake the nutrients as well as the other two. I think I should have just stuck with play sand only and not did half coarse sand and half play sand, cause it holds more water, and gives it more time to drink. There hasnt been any runoff though in the sand only or the sand and peat. The one with shavings in it has a bunch of runnoff even with a little watering but is the greenest.

I dont know if grow big is a good choice or if I should probably switch to a hydroponics based nutrient for better absorbtion. Im sure it will need micros too. We'll see how it goes, so far looking pretty good.

Aye a reckon hydro type nutes that are more soluble and chelated be it organic or not will be your best bet as it will be harder to keep em fed otherwise as it is technically hydro i imagine sand holds alot of air for the roots at least too
