Having calcium deficiency again with fast buds Forbidden Runtz. Maybe it's an autoflower thing, due to the rapid growth rate? I haven't run enough autos to know for sure.Same issue as budrock61.
I've got 3 Gelato autos at 47 days above ground and I ran into Ca and Mg issues as soon as I put them in the res. It took a couple of weeks for the deficiency to get noticeably symptomatic and it was a beast to resolve. I changed the nute mix from what Botanicare recommended and am using extra CalMag. At one point, I did a foliar spray of Epsom salts to get things back on track.
I’m in the same boat as you - limited experience.Having calcium deficiency again with fast buds Forbidden Runtz. Maybe it's an autoflower thing, due to the rapid growth rate? I haven't run enough autos to know for sure.
Yeah, could just be plant variation. I'll be running a couple more strains from fast buds, will see what happens...I’m in the same boat as you - limited experience.
My grow over the summer was Gorilla Glue autos and I didn’t have any nute issues. I used Botanicare Kind and they worked flawlessly. Fast forward to the Gelato and Botanicare’s mix wasn’t good for them from the outset. Fortunately, a grower (on another site) gave me the right amounts of Kind nutes to use and things are much better now. Having said that, even though the plants are doing well with that new nute formula, I’m still seeing some issues with Ca and Mg. I leave the pH at 6.0 and 6.1 for a bit (which is where they’re taken up more quickly than at 5. and had to do a foliar spray of Epsom salts.
Is it just autos that need more CalMag? Not that I’ve seen mentioned on the site that specializes in autos. I’ve also seen growers talk about LED”s needing more CalMag but never seen it on discussed on that site nor have I seen any research to back up that assertion.
I wouldn’t chalk it up to their growth rate. The exchange of nutes in the root zone is very quick and nute burn can happen very quickly, as well.
My thinking - based on 1 photo grow in 2017, the GG grow this year, and the Gelato grow now - is that a lot of this is just variation from plant to plant. My GG grow was 4 plants at three different heights - 24”, 30”, and 40”. Same vendor, same strain, same seed packet. I called it the “Twins grow” with the DeVitos on one side and the Schwarzennegger family on other.
Even with my three Gelatos, one plant got hit hard and early, the other two took much longer to show symptoms and the amount of damage to them was much more limited than the first one.
