Growing in the Shade

Seriously, is it really so bad for my plants to grow in the shade? I'm not talking about dense cover, just a layer or two of foliage. Doesn't light penetrate through leaves anyway?? I mean, they're growing fine as they are without direct sunlight.

i have some growing in a shady area were they get maybe like 4-5 hours at best of DIRECT sunlight and there doing OK not especially good or bad. how shady we talking here? and like me dont expect a big yield. they should grow though

More sunlight, more growth, more buds. They will do okay, but your nugs will most likely end up like ones grown under fluoros. My opinion! Good luck WCM! Don't know your situation, but i've been known to climb trees and remove select branches when removing the whole tree isn't an option. :clap:

i think even sligthtly shaded sunlight will kill any flouro

yeah, they will be fine...obviously the more direct sun they have the more bud, but they will produce nonetheless.

it's best to have morning sun, then shade in the hottest part of the day if there is any way for you to control this.

well, I too thought more sunlight the better, now I am begining to wonder if the strain or genetics has a role to play it it. reason being is, I have 2 afgani-mazar growing. one in direct sun for most of the day and the other is getting maybe 4-5 hrs of direct sunlight and believe it or not, the one in the shade has overwhelmingly outdone the sunlit one. no stretching, nice and bushy and showing big signs of budding, while the sunlit one looks about the same, maybe not as dense..... go figure???

Having the same experience with one of my plants that is well shaded most of the day. Outgrowing the others by a good margin [not just in height but in foliage and thickness]... I'm guessing it has a lot to do with the heat here though. It's been up to around 100f most days this summer so I'm sure the lower shade temps has been a benefit.

By the way WCM, are you prior service? If so, which branch? US Army, 35F - going on 11 years now.
