Hey give ive learned some things when growing in Saskatchewan and thought I would share them with you.
.Tying your plants down- I find this very important for growing in Saskatchewan! It gets windy as hell here, and when plants are pretty small and just growing, they can get snapped pretty easy. I tie them down with a piece of string and a decent sized rock on the other end, just burry the rock in the soil a bit and cover it. You can watch your plants as the wind blows, the leaves are blowing around, but the plant is standing still.
.Starting plants early- This is a must if you want a nice yeild! Last year plants were around 12 feet tall because I started them indoors before it was nice enough to put outside. This year I started them a bit late, when my dad put his tomatoes outside. A great thing to use when planting early, is use a wall of water, which are used for growing tomatoes, just search for a picture on google. I find this a very good secret for growing in saskatchewan! The plants can go out earlier and handle the cold nights. The plants with the walls of water grow a noticable amount faster too.
.Rainbarrels- rainbarrels are a great thing to have! It can get really hot here, and not have rain for awhile, so its good to have rainbarrles to collect wonderful rainwater for your ladies incase they get dry.
.Neem oil- Neem oil is great for getting rid of bugs! I notice alot of little bugs crawlin all over my girls, so I use neem oil.
