Growing Pipe Weed With Mithrandir

Greetings travelers. Welcome to my little indoor slice of The Shire. We're in compliance with all local bounder regulations (legal Ca med pt.) here and Saruman wouldn't dare touch my pipe weed. While Bilbo and Sam keep trying to convert me to organics, I have been a hydro wizard since 95. Eventually we'll try it Sam's way, but until then...

THE ROOMS

Flower room
appx 9 x 9
4 x 1K HPS
1 3 x 6 Ebb and Flow table - 70 gal res
2 3 x 3 Ebb and Flow tables - 40 gal res on each one
1 12k BTU air conditioner for summer.

The flower room is split in half, one month apart, so I harvest every 35 days or so instead of every 60 - 70. Because of this I have to stay very clean. If anything happens, at any given time there is a batch still 3 - 4 weeks from being done. The walls are covered in Reflectix, the floor is just the plain ol cement floor. The 3 x 3's will be replaced with a single 4 x 8 soon and I am going to add a 2 x 4 next to the 3 x 6 to use the space more efficiently. The 3 x 3s will move to The Mothership.

Currently I am running GH 3 part with a few additives, with the final formula depending on what the plant wants. I am always trying to learn more, and am open to trying new things. Over the years I have tried almost every additive that GH offers and many from other companies. I have found that if you learn to master the 3 part, you don't need many additives. I also try to keep my nute level as low as possible. I have yet to run into a person who can distinguish between my correctly grown, dried and cured flowers and organics. Of course if I fuck up and use too much or don't dry or cure correctly, you can easily tell. :)

I run fresh air. I have two 12"x24" intake vents.

The Mothership (Mothers and Veg)
Appx 8 x 9
2 x 1k MH
2 x 600 MH
1 2 x 4 Ebb and Flow Table
3 - 5 various small Ebb and Flow units of my design/making depending on how many moms are in the room.

The Mothership is set up to be both mothers and veg. How many lights are in use at any given time depends on how many moms I have and whether or not I have a batch in veg. I generally veg for 2 weeks, take a clone or two and then send them to flower. I use the gees to veg with and the 600s over my moms. The mothership still needs an AC unit (I run veg at night in summer), and another ebb and flow table. This room is also covered in Reflectix with the bare floor. GH nutes in veg as well.

Just a random E & F unit. The floor is actually clean, it just has a lot of stains.

Moms - I am down to just a few. Clearing space for new genetics.

The Flowers!

I currently have 2 strains running, plus one more coming up. Blue Dream (Santa Cruz cut), Blue Diesel (Came from a lone seed in an 8th I got from a dispensary) are in flower. I was recently gifted Abusive OG, which is in veg getting bigger. I plan to take clones in 2 - 3 weeks and flower them out. The Blue Dream as most of us know, is a breeze to grow and can handle almost anything you throw at her. While the market for her is still there, I am sooooooo tired of smoking her. The Blue Diesel is still being dialed in but so far I don't think she will stick around too long. Smells great, like rubber gloves, decent high. But is so far a very low yielder. She's a nute hog and will show nute deficiencies at levels that make the blue dream happy. It's possible that the yield will improve once she is dialed in.

Some of the Blue Dream. I suck at taking pix of plants. They look so much better in person.

Air intake! Since I am not using CO2 yet I have 2 24 x 12 intake vents. I cut the holes, and then built a frame behind it to hold the air filter. It's sealed well enough that the air only goes through the filter, not around it. I change the filters once a month.

Subbed! Looks amazing! I was planning on trying that same filter setup. Good to see it works :)

Finished my first perfect run of Mulanje hash!

We can stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

See you at the cup!

Cheers,
Mo

I live in a two story house and I vent everything to the room above.

I also keep 3 of the flower ballasts up there. The tape is covering extra 6" vent holes. They are there for future expansion or changes. Man, I really need to clean up the ceiling!

I forgot to mention equipment brands. I use Hortilux HPS bulbs in flower. In veg the 600's are Ushios, and the 1K's are Hortilux Blues. Ballasts are all maggies, except for two. I have two Solis Tek Ballasts. A 600 and a 1K Matrix. They frikkin rock. The maggies are CAP Extreme ballasts. I even still have 2 of the old Sun System white bricks that are still going strong. Replace the caps regularly and a magnetic ballast will last a lifetime (almost). However, I see myself moving to all Solis Teks soon. The digital ballasts produce slightly less heat, are smaller and lighter, and the digi is a touch, just a touch brighter than the maggies.

Carbon filter is a Phresh filter. Works great. I will replace it soon with another Phresh filter. Fans are Eco Plus (the blue ones) which I love. I have had the 6inch for well over 10 years, and go the 8 inch 2 years ago. The big white 10 incher is a can fan. It's reduced to 8 inches. I run 2 lights per fan, but could run 3 with AC.

Tomorrow will be a good day to begin a start to finish documentation of the LA Confi. She is in quarantine right now. Even after hanging with F.M.I.L.Y and knowing that his grow is absolutely clean, I will still take the precaution of quarantine, scoping, and if need be, spraying. I don't think I am going to need to do that though.

Sounds awfully complicated which means if I hang here now and then I'm sure to learn something, well done so far on what looks like a superb set up.

We went back to the cup today and visited every booth. I feel like I spent two days at Disneyland! Picked up some cool things and met some amazing farmers :)

Well hello there New Girl. :)

DSCN2599.jpg DSCN2600.jpg

This is the LA Confidential. Her, along with the Jesus OG, and Cherry Pie I received are all in my "quarantine room". Which is just a spare bathroom on the 2nd floor that I toss a 250MH in. :) They will stay in here for a week to however long it needs. Depends on whether or not anyone has bugs.

I learned the hard way to always take precautions, be clean, and be prepared. I don't want to use them, but I have an arsenal on hand if so much as one bug shows it's ugly face. I lost something like 5 wonderful cuts to root aphids once (including the GSC forum cut). I had previously dealt with mites, thrips, whiteflys, etc. But I was unprepared for a root based predator. After that I educated myself as best I could and armed myself with every volatile chemical I could find that killed tiny living creatures. Fortunately I only needed one and won the war, but only after heavy casualties. Now I know, prevention is the best defense.

Anyhoo, I am looking forward to taking cuttings from each of these and getting them flowered out.

And sure enough, one of the new cuts has mites. Everyone got sprayed with Avid last night, as did my moms, the entire mom room, the room the room is in and the entire quarantine area. I never spray in flower. Scoping this morning only shows dead mites so far. I will hit them again on Friday with either Avid again, or Forbid. Maybe Floramite.

This delays things a touch since I now need to keep everyone under the 250 until they are absolutely clean. Probably a couple of weeks. Well, better safe than sorry.

it can happen.. even in travel with clones. I spray any new plant and do some maintenance sprays too here and there. Looks like you got your groove on man. here to watch. :-)
