hairs turning red month(ish) before harvest? Is this 2nd plant a male?

**This is my first grow EVER!!!!**

Okay, i got 2 plants on the go..

plant A ) Blue Widow (Feminized)
Plant B ) Random bag seed

The blue widow is about a month into flowering, so about a month to go. When I switched the light to 12/12, i decided to start a random bag seed because, why not? its a free seed and thought i would just give it a go and wait to see if came out as female.

The bag seed has been on 12/12 for all its life and its been going for about a month now. I repotted it yesterday. I am pretty sure that it is showing signs of being female, although on my Blue widow plant, the hairs are turning redish, and i should still have a month to go and i didnt think they shuld turn red just yet.

Here are a few pics of my plants, the blue widow pic doesnt show the red hairs, but its just to try to show what the main bud looks like roughly.

sorry for crappy pics, i was in a rush this morning to get them and all i have is a crappy laptop camera, its awkward to use when try to just specific photos.

Well your flowering plant looks rather nice, you'll need a microscope to be able to check the trichomes to know when the plant is ready for harvest... Actually I'd say your seedling looks very nice, but you should put it on 18/6 with blue lights(promotes leaf/short internodal growth) asap, it'll love you for it, and seeds WILL NOT flower until they are a certain size anyways. As for sexing the plant at this age I don't know if you can, but when you can you'll need that microscope again to distinguish the preflowers between male and female. Also, I've rarely seen males with such short, squat structure,(they tend to be taller/ganglier) especially if they're under red light(promotes stem/flower growth); therefore I doubt it is a male. In the event that it is a male though, it looks like a good strong father and you should clone it if you want to breed at all...

Good luck, feel free to ask me questions!

ah okay, thanks for good words. Id love to have started the bag seed from 18/6 really, but i only have the one light and just planted it because it was free and was curious to see what would happen if its under 12/12 straight from germ. luckily i have two more seeds from the same bag which i will probably do properly if this plant turns out well. And i will look into cloning hopefully if it is a male.

I feel pretty confident that it is female. its jsut the red hairs that have worried me, have you ever heard that a male plant pollinating can cause red hairs early? I read it online somewhere and it is the only thing that has made me worry about this bag seed plant being male Ill get a microscope as soon as i have some money so i can get a proper look into these. Any recommendations for cheap, good quality scopes online?

Honestly the color of the pistils means little to nothing, but in a cooler environment, the pistils should show more color. Even if the little plant was a male, it's not far enough along in it's life to pollinate anything yet, so don't worry. It takes roughly 2 weeks after a male starts flowering till it drops pollen. If I were you I'd wait for that seedling to get a bit bigger, 8-12 inches maybe, and then top it. turn the top into a clone, it won't be as good a clone as one from fresh inner branches but it should still do fine.

Radio shack sells a decent scope for 12 bucks. Takes a little getting used to but works well enough. As far as red hairs don't sweat it. I just finished a grow and my hairs turned red 4 weeks into flower. Harvest was great no ill effects from pistils turning red. Good luck!
