Harvesting

Hello all i am about to harvest my bud soon and have read many ways to do this. I've seen many growers cut off the branches and hang buds individually. I was wondering if it would be better or just as good to trim your plant and hang all the whole plant rather than individual stems??

It's all the same but I think it's more a pain to trim the whole plant because there is not much room to maneuver while trimming.

I think the reasoning and purpose for hanging the entire plant is that there is THC in the main stem and when hung upside down gravity works to pull the THC towards your buds while it dries. Im not for certain, but I read about that somewhere. Personally, Ive tried both ways and didn't really notice much of a difference in drying time except on the smaller branches towards the bottom of the plant which obviously dry faster since they are small, but overall it was about the same time whether i cut each branch or hung the entire thing, so I just hang the entire thing, but i cut off quite a bit of foliage before doing so.

No offense to you, but this is 100% false. I really don't know how so many people could think this is how plants function. Even with only common sense to go by, there are flaws with this idea.

That being said, I find it much easier to trim before they are dry. Less mess. dry bud tends to fall apart easier and is more difficult to cut.

not to be an ass here but is there any chance you can.. explain.. how that is wrong?

What you did was kinda like "Well you are completely wrong.. But i cant explain why"

which is why I said I'm not certain whether this is true or not. also, usually if you're not trying to offend someone then you just say the statement you don't follow it with a blanket statement about ho you "don't know ho so many people could think this." It kind of retracts from saying No offense in which case you should just not say no offense if you're going to be offensive.:wall::wall::wall:

You my friend are right 100%,hanging a plant upside down so thc can somehow be pulled down with gravity is a total myth.Read and you will see that this is pure myth,Hanging your plants upside-down after harvest is another 'technique' that's misunderstood by a lot of people.Hanging your plants upside down draws the moisture towards the buds, people tend to think that this increases, thc, resulting in more potent buds. All it does is to slow the dryout process a little.

If ya hang the whole plant to dry it could take 3 weeks for it to dry. Ya could get uneven drying as well.

Question 2.. Wouldnt drawing more moisture into the buds help it in the Curing process?

As in.. If the buds have very little moisure and dry very quickly wont that affect how long you can cure them?

Ya hang them up side down is they are easier to hang that way. Thats all it does.

ABout drying to fast if you got you drying process down, you got your temps in check you don't have to worry about drying to fast, you buds probably would be more susceptible to mold if not careful but you can hang them upside down if you want ,just stay on the watch for mold.

The buds will contrinue to develop and finalize their maturing process if you hang the entire plant. The same thing I do with my tomatoe plants in late fall; pull the entire plant and hang it in my basement for a couple of weeks. The green tomatoes finish ripening to red and the foliage dies off as the fruit pulls the last of the moisture and nutrients from the dying plant.

More than just easier to hang! I get more ripened tomatoes this way. Why isn't this the same process. I'm not saying more buds, but buds that have taken all they can from the main plant.

ok.. first off.. THC is only located in the resin glands on the plant.. and its actually only in the little head of the gland... THC is not a free moving substance within the plant... the only places THC is on the plant are where you see resin glands a.k.a trichromes... if THC was free moving why would we hang them period? why wouldnt we just smoke stems and all? so thats why the THC in the stem thing is a myth... THC is ONLY located where you see resin glands... the idea of hanging them upside down is for convience.. you can fit a lot more buds in a room if you hang them on lines than if you had a big mesh screen that you laid them on to dry...

secondly its best to let your buds dry slow... if the exterior of the bud drys to fast you could think its ready to cure, but it could still have a TON of moisture in the stem and center of the bud.. if you go to cure it and its like that its a perfect setup for mold and mildew... you want to let the buds dry slowly over several days to make sure the moisture in the middle is sufficiently leached out before curing... most mold/bacteria cant grow in conditions with less than 15% moisture... so its important to make sure that the buds evenly dry to avoid the situation where mold can grow.. which means a slow even dry works best..

i personally trim the branches from the main stem and trim the buds while on the branch, then i hang them.. i leave an inch or so between branches for air movement.. i keep them in a dark area with a fan going for circulation and dont allow humidity to get over 60%.. i personally like a slighty more humid drying room so the buds dry slower, again to avoid mold later down the road.. i just make sure the room has plenty of air exchange and circulation so the buds dont mold on the stems... it usually take 5 to 7 days to get all the buds dried enough to cure.. then its another 5 to 7 days of curing in mason jars... which get burped 3 to 4 times a day...

like i said earlier, hanging them is purely convience... its quick and space efficient.. you can also use a big mesh screen, like from a picture window, as a drying rack.. just prop the screen up with some chairs or whatever... and waa laa.. giant drying screen... still need good air movement in the room... but works just as well as hanging them if you so choose...

since we flush our plants before we harvest them they have already taken everything they can from the plant and grow medium... so hanging the entire plant to let the buds take every little bit they can from the plant is not really needed since thats what they did during the flushing process... and typically by the time we harvest there is little to no foliage left on the plants anyways...

What you are saying makes sense to me, but read this-
https://www.rollitup.org/view.php?pg=faq&cmd=article&id=152

I have been hanging my harvest for 48 hours now, and am not sure when to go to the paper bags. I am afraid of mold. The humidity stays 55-60%. The buds have shrunk bigtime, and outside ifeeling somewhat crispy. stems do not snap though. What is a good way to tell??
