CHEESECAKE LADY! If you have been to concerts in Colorado over the last decade you have probably come across this unorthodox vendor, the Cheesecake Lady. Carrying a cooler of her delicious cheesecakes, she was ready to get you going before the show or also to help you crash after the festivities. While Colorado went medical in 1999, it was not until after the presidential election in 2008 that people began to feel comfortable opening up dispensaries and cannabis edibles operations. Now the day has come where her cheesecakes are being sold in stores as Twirling Hippy Confections in many stores all of Colorado.
Twirling Hippy Confections has dozens of different varieties of chocolates and cheesecakes to choose from. The Weed Tour was able to score some Twist-Arounds (akin to Twix) and some Blueberry Cheesecakes, both of which are stellar. The treats contain 1.1 grams, which is a good deal for around only $5, plus the ingredients are quality.
The Twist-Around was a lot like a Twix, but in a cup shape. The edible contained caramel and a vanilla wafer contained in a combination of dark and milk chocolate. Tempering chocolate is a difficult craft that the Twirling Hippy evidently has mastered because the chocolate on these treats was outstanding. There was not an overbearing flavor of cannabis; only subtle combinations of chocolate and weed were detected. The wafer on the inside was crunchy and the treat was very fresh. Twirling Hippy Confections have a fairly long shelf life when kept refrigerated, which is why you will likely find these treats behind a cooled case at medical marijuana centers.
The Blueberry Cheesecake was equally delicious. This cheesecake as with the others from Twirling Hippy Confections have a thick layer of cheesecake filling wedged between a graham cracker crust on the bottom and the toppings on, you guessed it, the top. What I think is most special about these treats is the quality of the ingredients. The cheesecake we sampled had real blueberries on top, not just a blueberry flavoring, and the texture was even through-out, which can be difficult with hand-made edibles.
The most important part of edibles is their efficacy. These treats contain an appropriate amount of THC. I was medicated within about an hour after eating these and was consistently pain-free for around four or five hours; and I am no lightweight (literally and figuratively). Determining potency takes trial and error for a patient and can sometimes lead to over-medicating. While some edibles contain much more THC in their treat, Twirling Hippy Confections has a very consistent dose which is contained in the entire treat. Having a four-dose edible can be dangerous because patients (and myself) will typically just eat all of it. Overall I am impressed with these treats. They taste delicious, get you medicated, have quality ingredients, and are affordable. Please visit their site to check out their other products.
