Hash talk

Pretty new to ice water hash, but I just broke my bags out of storage and now know what I'll be playing around with this winter:hump: I think once I've had a few runs under my belt, with all the equipment I need,I should be able to do this without it taking all day lol.
I did the standard ice, water, metal spoon run last night and am really pleased with the outcome. Need a little dry time then it's on! Recently picked up a nice bubbler that I plan testing the 25 with. No bud, just hash
Hoping for that full melt...
Here was just a down and dirty run with some plants I've had for a year( I could not force myself to throw them out) Goddamn they tasted awful, I'm not sure why, two different strains, different runs, but that's a different topic. Anyways, I thought I'd get a practice run in, and the little taster I had this morning was real nice.

Next time I'll be more organized with my piles (I do know whats what)
I did 3 runs. I stirred more vigorously and for longer each run. 10min, 12min, 15 min

Who's making hash? What's your method?fresh bud? Dried? Frozen? How are you storing it? Down to hear any tips, advice, recommendations and experiences:peace:

i switched all my processing over to solventless a few months ago, with ice water separation being the first stage. my process is frenchy style for the most part. i run dry material and dry the hash with a freeze dryer. i turn the 25u into edibles. for the 45u, it either gets pressed into full melt, or squished into rosin. the 160u i smoke and give away mostly. the only real difference between what i do and how frenchy does it is that i use an iron to press my 45u instead of a hot water bottle and i time my washes a little differently

Nice. That 45 turned to rosin must be tasty AF. Any reason why you press that and not the 25? I thought the 25 would be a better candidate for full melt/ rosin?
My bags were really cheap. I dont really catch anything til 73:roll:
I had to google the freeze dryer. Do you put your hash in directly after extraction? I just covered mine and plan on letting it dry out another night.
Sounds like your process is nicely dialed in

the 25u is mostly damaged or immature trichomes. i havent tried squishing any yet, all ive done with it so far is cook. the eidbles come out pretty nice.
after i wash and collect, i throw the hash in the fridge on the bottom shelf for up to five days, until i have enough to fill the freeze dryer. the dryer is usually done in 15-16 hours, give or take. after that, i press what i can out of the 45u and squish what doesnt turn into full melt
<<check this thread for tons of good hash making info
^^check this video and subsequent installments for visual aid and more good hash making info
these two links are where my method comes from. i havent been at it very long, but i can say that this technique, while tedious, is pretty foolproof. i have yet to have anything come out green or otherwise fucked up

Nice info, man. Thanks for the link:peace:

I use 2 buckets........work bucket has a valve on the bottom to keep water level where I want it. 2'nd bucket is just to catch water out of that drain. Also a spray bottle to "wash" the sides of the bags, and help gather the hash in the bags. I like to layer the material and ice, let it sit so it freezes then rinse with cold water to wash. I've put fresh frozen, dried and frozen......it all works and don't know which one I like better. Been playing with the bags for a little over a year and still making little tweaks.

I used two buckets as well, but without the drain which would have been handy. The spray bottle is so useful, I did have one, and it surely helps.
Did you use a bulkhead fitting for your valve?

Do you use a zipper bag in the washing machine? Frenchy doesn't use one but I've seen a lot of people that do

73 bag is usually the best for me by far. i dont even keep the 25 bag, 45 bag is as low as i go. I use 220,190.160,120,73,45. only keep 120,73,45. i also never ever squeeze or press the hash. it locks water into it. after initial drying on 25 screen on paper towels to let gravity remove water in fridge i put on cold metal tray and chop very fine then into freezer for few hours. then in fridge until thawed and chopped again. then after 24 hours i sit it out for final dry. end up with very nice end product that clients prefer over cannoli style in my area.

Thanks for linking that vid. Really informative, I've got a lot to learn. I was really surprised with how sparingly he uses the ice,and that its used primarily to cool the water.I loaded my bucket with ice lol. What a cool guy frenchy is for laying all that out.

Damn man, thanks for breaking that down for me. It's nice to know different methods. Its kind of a novelty, but I really want to zest some frozen hash over a joint sometime. So after your final chop, what's your end product? Do you ball it up for your clients?

It's very fine powder. I use to press it but It smokes alot better when it's like beach sand.

Seems like it would prevent a lot of clog ups but may hinder the water vortex Frenchy talks about. Ive seen Bubbleman use one and he packs it full of ice. Different methods between the two though. From what I've seen, Frenchy relies on the vortex and ice cold water with little ice, while Bubbleman considers shape and size of the ice to be important, also using way more of it. Just my .02

I've used both ways many times. I prefer using the bag style only because it's so much easy to clean up and nothing clogs the washer drain ever. Never noticed a difference in yield.
