Have Fungas Gnats? Tried Glue Strips? Why not Give This a Try

I have 0 credibility here.. So i have nothing to lose..


I have, like many of you, a small, indoor soil garden. I use organic soil and with organic soil, comes gnats. I have a method that has been very successful with my latest infestation.

I was smoking and watching my plants one night being upset at slow growth and one dead plant due to fungus gnats.. They were taking over. I Hit them with a soap mixture, no luck, then i got a 50 lb bag of playground sand and put about an inch or two on top of my plants soil. Ok, this is going well. They are flying around now looking for somewhere to go.. That night, i accidentally left a glass of kool-aid (blue raspberry fwiw) next to my grow. I went and checked on the plants the next day, saw the kool-aid glass, and saw what was inside.. about 10-15 gnat carcusus.. I said hm... lets give it another day or so, so i move my glass of kool aid into my closet and put it at the base of a few plants.. Just one glass at soil level. I came back the today to 30+ carcasus in the cup of kool aid. So i came to the conclusion thata the playground sand put them on the move.. and the glass of Kool aid attracted them to their demise.. I mean.. who doesnt love kool aid?

I also have a fungus gnats problem, yesterday I sprayed my plants with neem oil and I put some neem oil in the soil as well and this morning when I checked the plants I couldn't see even one of them. Now lets see if they come back for more

My friend says he uses misquito dunks and crumbles some up on top of the soil and it kills them too. So if the koolaid doesn't kill them all you might try that.

GUYS I HAVE THESE BITCHES UP IN MY SOIL!!!!! can i use citronella oil? cos i cant find that oil u mention above!!! HELP pls my babiesss are infested fuckkk

so wait, your saying that if you put a class of kool-aid next to the plant it will attract the insects?

there are home remedies for using things like cider vinegar in cups.


Neem oil (cold pressed) will work eventually but its a systemic which affects reproduction on most pests.

There are other products available that will also kill the larvae living and feeding on your roots.

My favourite pest killer is SPINOSAD.


Yellow sticky traps are good precaution.


The trouble with sand is that the gnats can still gain access to your plants through your drainage holes.

those are prolly soil mites, bro; they're a good thing. if youre in FFOF i can guarantee thats what they are

I think FFOF if my research is correct (uk based so dont get FF here) is loaded with HYPOASPIS MILES which are FUNGUS GNAT PREDATORS they will also eat a few other soil dwelling pests such as THRIPS larvae etc i think they have done this as a precaution for growers to stop fungus gnat issues.

I had the fungus gnats as well so i looked up online what to do and apple cider viniger in a cup next to the plant will also kill them

Koolaid is a cool idea. Fungas gnats can be killed with BT, mosquito dunks can be bought at most garden centers. just break up the dunk and add it to your feed water. The BT will kill the larva in the soil in a couple weeks you should be gnat free. Sand just makes a mess and holds in too much moisture.

Glue that's funny u said that. So I tried glue and yeah it did make me high a little but I still had a gnat problem. So I just got a dry towel and covered the soil in each pot entirely because gnats lay their eggs in the top 1/4" of soil and if they can't lay their eggs then they can't reproduce. The gnats that u c will soon die off....I made up the part about sniffing glue. Lol.

Fungus Gnats are the devil. What you may also have, is root aphids. Often, they start out as aphids in the medium and crawl up. From there they hit winged stage and fly around looking for other sites to infest. If caught early on, Bayer Veggie and Fruit will completely eradicate them. The active ingredient is Imidacloprid, which is systemic, but I've read multiple accounts of people using a few weeks prior to harvest with no ill effects. Root Aphids and Fungus Gnats have been destroying cash crops for hundred of years, and Imid has been a gigantic fighting force against these little pricks. Commercial Tobacco is treated with Imid, as a drench and foilar, usually up until the last week. So, if you really really want to baby your plants then you can try some more organic methods like sand and kool-aid. If it works, more power to you. I, for one, would never take a risk with Gnats or Aphids.

Sticky traps are a cheap weapon as well, and can be used to gauge the the strength of your infestation. A glass of kool-aid is effectively the same thing, and the sand is most definitely doing some work, but you will need to keep an eye out. Three weeks from now you could have the worst batch of critters in the world. Or you could be fine

Let us know how things work out. I hope you continue to have success. If I might add though: The point is to kill these things. Giving them a very harsh but not lethal environment can lead to breeding superbugs in your grow room that have adapted to your controls.
