I've seen this question asked before, but I have never seen an answer. I was thinking about using a DIY filter such as this:

I'm wondering approximately how big an exhaust fan's CFM needs to be to exhaust a 36"x32"x60" space, hopefully 4 plants in a stinkbud aeroponics system. I'm going to have a 400 watt HPS with reflector. So I will need to exhaust some of the heat, but not crucial. My room right now stays pretty close to about 60 degrees with lights off, which can be slightly adjusted. I'm more concerned about smell. Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.

To exchange the air comletely you will need 40.5 SCFM. I use this website to calculate cfm: http://cheaphydroponics.com/Merchant2/cfmcalc.htm

If you are concerned about smell you will need a carbon filter which will up the amount of cfm required to exhaust out of the grow area. If you don't already have a fresh air intake you should look at this also. In my experience I find it works best to push fresh air in (intake) and suck the hot air out (exhaust).

I was planning on doing a passive intake near the bottom, and an exhaust near the top with DIY carbon filter. So 160 CFM inline fan should do the trick. Thanks again.
