HELP! Can't work this 24hr TIMER!?

Can someone help me out... it is saying "push down the joint slices"... there isn't any... I think it broke off??

Aren't there a bunch of splines, grey colored or black, around the clock dial? If so push those down for hours you want the light on. The clock dial is the center, the splines are the next thing outside that.
