Help cloning

If 15 cuttings are not showing roots after 7 days, is something wrong? Not only that but they seem to be slowly wilting, like they are just kind of dying a little bit each day.

Their environment is an enclosed plastic bag with vents, the humidity fluctuates between 65% and 75% as they are sprayed with water multiple times a day. temperature stays at roughly 75 degrees.

They are in jiffy pellets and have been dipped in both rooting gel and powder. The pellets themselves are not dry but are not really soaked either. There is very little water on the floor, mostly on the ceiling which drips down.

No 7 days your still okay. You might want to get a root enhancer that will help dramatically. About 10 bucks for a little bottle. are you giving them a little air each day? What kind of lights are on them? You should have a low cfl on them right now. They do not need the light as much because it will grow leaves.
Hope this helps

get a proper tray and dome with an insert, about $13. put a little water in bottom of tray, put dome on, don't spray with anything.put under light. wait for roots. it doesn't take much more than that. newbies always love their plants to death trying to do to much.less is more, always

Heres a pic of a similar setup, forgot to mention theres a 23 watt cfl in the mix.

@dbdweller assume its already dipped in rootech gel and in indole 3 acid powder, what other root enhancers are there???

@chuck estevez so leave some standing water under rather than try to get water in through the leaves? sounds like its worth trying.

Any other suggestions? I know this is a basically simple process in theory but like so many things its not working the way it should. What else could possibly be causing the problem…. ? It looks like you took a clone from a flowering plant. are the ones in the picture too young?

yes, you can take a cut from a flowering plant, a much longer process though. also, some clones can take 3 weeks before busting roots, like some og's. I really think yours are suffocating and need some air. Take the bag off and let them be, see if they perk up after about 24 hrs.

There could be a few factors. One i do not know were you are. if you are in a higher altitude then it could be heat and lack of co2. Above 3000 you change and above 6000 you change again. The higher up the less oxygen hence less co2. Some clones do very well with a heat pad under them.. If they are staying to wet , that can hurt you too. The oxygen is in the water and if they sit in water to much they can not suck up new oxygen because they are sitting in water they have already sucked up the oxygen in. That is why so growers will go to the dry side before watering again. LST Low Stress Test applied at the same time.
GH rapid start is pretty good but what you are looking for is the numbers 1-0.5-1 your PNK
Hope this helps

Peace out

Bag's off. Looks like yours never had a dome on to begin with? Maybe adding a small fan is a good idea?

@dbdweller
Im under 3000 and feeling even lower watching them die :(
Does heat coming in from the side have the same effect as heat from underneath?

just checked and a few seem to have root rot… really wasn't expecting that when all the water came in from the top.

look closer, I took dome up for pics. I always use a dome until they bust roots. I just make sure it has a fog on the inside of the dome, then I know I'm good

Put some seltzer water in a spray bottle and spray your plastic cover. If you got the dome, then spray the dome and cover your clones. Open the vents on your dome. You also might want your rapid rooters a little more light protected. Roots do not like light, and algae does.

I found a seedling heating mat helps with stubborn cuts. Watch shit doesnt dry out. I put a towel between my tray and mat and it just keeps it a little warmer than air temp.

Thanks for all the help guys… follow up question. Once the stems are starting to get mushy does that mean its time to give up on the clone and try again or can a plant bounce back from that?

mushy not good, but you can cut off that part and try again.

The more i look at it the more i think maybe overwatering, if i pick up a jiffy pellet and give a light squeeze and water comes out, is that a sign of too much or could that be ok?

The thing thats weird is … why would the leaves turn crispy in a humid overwatered environment while the stems get droopy?

and yea i just cut a few mushy stems off and put them back in

I like em wet when they go in at first, but not soaking like that. i try to not have to re water until they have roots

honestly the best thing for cloning is the DWC bubbler, I get good clones almost 98.9% of the time without any extra gels or hormones, all i use is just plain tap water
