HELP! DWC scrog

Hi Guys,

I started to do my first DWC grow and have planned to do a scrog. I have read many different ways of achieving this so picked 1 at random. I let my chemdog from sensi seeds grow to about 15" and cut all the internodes and fan leaves until 8" was bare. once this was done i put my screen over and put what was left through the screen and started to LST it which i think may turned into a super crop for the apical bud. when i was bending this over the stem basically split in half on the vertical. (picture added) will this repair? i tried to press it together but it sounded as if it was going to break more so i have left it. is there anything i can/should do or can this be left to fix itself?

if there is anything you can see that im doing wrong please let me know. this is my first DWC/scrog so any input would be appreciated.

Yea I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. These plants are amazing at repairing themselves. On the other hand in the second picture those fan leaves look in pretty rough shape. Appears to be a nitrogen overdose from here, but it may just be the lighting. What are you feeding her?

She gets 60no ionic grow, 1.5ml nitrozime and 1.5ml green fuse grow per roughly 3gal. The ppm is kept between 750-900 and ph is 5.5-6.2. As it's in the loft the temp varies but haven't seen it over 25 so it's growing pretty slow.

Temps seem fine. Is she drinking any water? If she is make sure and check the PPMs before you top it off. That number will give you a solid indication of how much food she is actually eating. If the PPMs go up as the water level decreases that tells you that she's drinking/transpiring and not eating much. The goal is to have those numbers stay consistent with the PPMs your putting in and the PPMs when the water level lowers.

In my current DWC my widow takes around 900-950 PPM, and 24 hours later when I put another gallon in the res it measures around 850-900.

I'm sure you have read all this already, but I noticed you said this was your first DWC so I figured I would pass on this bit of info. Took me a while to figure it all out. I never go by the recommended dosage. I start feeding mine 1/4 strength@300ppm and let them tell me when it's time for more food based on the ppm's in the res. It's a fool proof way to understand your particular strains needs.

Looks like you went a little trim happy there hunter! Generally when you are scroggin you won't take off all the undergrowth until around the 3 week of flower. But this is a gradual process, take a few fans here and a few fans there till you reach that 3 week mark and then you've got nothing left under the screen to take off. By doing the trim prematurely you have most likely severely stressed the plant and all the lateral branches that you took off would have eventually reached the screen and become bud sites. Not a whole lot you can do about it now but hope the plant bounces back. You're gonna wanna let that screen get at least 50% full before you switch over to bloom. Remember the plant will at least double in size once you induce flowering so make sure you have enough room to move branches around and place bud sites in the holes of the screen. And speaking of the screen, you might want to think about upgrading to something a little bit more sturdy as the upward pressure produced by the growing plant will most likely pull the screen up with it. Lowe's or home depot sells green metal fencing material that has like 2"x3" rectangular holes that is perfect for a scrog screen and will definitely hold up, string just doesn't cut it.

As far as your stem break goes, I wouldn't worry about it, I had an almost total split of one of my main stems and that sucker healed right back up, and what would ya know, it's even burlier than it was before. As Bucees says, these plants can take a whole lot of abuse before they kick the bucket. And I totally agree with Bucees regarding the feeding, I'm rocking 2 girl scout cookies right now and started them out at a very low ppm, 1/4 strength nutes. Now that I'm flowering they're running at around 900 ppm and seem to be happy about it. But caution is the word of the day when it comes to feeding your plants. During veg they can take an over-fertilization with relative ease, just flush em out and reset. However, if you over-fertilize them during flower that's a whole other story.

Anyway, if you have any interest in seeing a step by step of how I'm scroggin my plants and how I set up my RDWC system (something I highly recommend if you're going to be running more than one plant), check out my current grow in this sub-forum "Girl Scout Cookies RDWC Scrog Grow." And feel free to message me if you have any questions! Good luck!

Oh and btw, pics are of the under canopy at around end of week 1 of flower (still some growth under the screen but not too much, notice the lateral arms that start nearing at the base of the main stem, they've all reached the screen and are gonna be monster buds) and above the canopy at the end of week 2 of flower. Just a little reference for ya.

shes drinking both but sometimes more nutes then she starts to balance out around 750ppm's. i dont top off with anything but flush the system out once a week. when first starting the system i had used quarter strength and gradually built up to full strength around the 900ppm but now i think i'll make it up to 750ppm from now on.

Plants fine, I break my brances sometimes tying them into screens, they form a nice knuckle. Obviously dont do it purposefully, but it happens. If you have temp issues with your bucket, wrap it in reflectix, its an insulator.

As for your screen height change from veg to flowering, here is an example.

yes very trim happy! after i had done it i though, aw shit, but ive never lollypopped before as i was too scared to but just said fuck it and went for it. thanks for your advice. i have checked out your journal on the GSC and it looks great. picked up a good few pointers and will try them a long the way on my grow. my chemdog is starting to look alot better, just checked my ppm's and there at 710. just need to find the balance now.
