HELP! -- Small bugs in soil!
Hey guys, I'm new at this growing thing, but I did lookup some stuff online-- I used peat moss, perlite and unfertilized soil. Recently having realized peatmoss is slightly acidic I added some crush egg shell shards to the top soil, which will hopefully help.
My issue is this: I have seen a couple small, round, light brown/tan bugs-- and reading the other posts I'm not alone... However someone had suggested trying sterilized sand on top of the soil, to absorb the moisture the insects are thriving on and killing the little SOBS for good! however, I have been to canadian tire, and walmart looking for damn sand and they're sold out! I hate seeing my baby suffer and I have added more perlite to the top few inches of soil, to hopefully aerate and dry the top soil -- making an unhappy environment for my intruders.
If you would have any alternative suggestions to the sand idea or chemical compound- I would rather stick with an inexpensive, organic method.
Should I transplant it in new soil? I have lots of perlite and peat moss, is there any way that would be better? (I think the soil was infected... but not sure)
Thanks for any advice!
