Help learning about Maine real estate

Hi friends, I recently bought ten acres in the Southeast and regret it immensely. I'm not a criminal but would like to use mmj for anxiety n depression. Discovered its beneficial effect about 6 years ago and lived in California for 2 years but way too expensive for a quiet secluded space. So now thinking of Maine where it looks like a 5 or 10 acre parcel with a tiny house (like 400 SF) is very doable if I sell here. What is the mmj scene like there? Where are the quiet country areas? Your help n links r very appreciated.

Well I started to look for a buyers agent and chose USDA plant hardiness zone 5 to start. Any help would still be appreciated. Will be at least next summer but who knows? Miracles happen n I'm overdue.

my gf lives in waldo county and i've been up there a handful of times and it's really beautiful up there.. lots of nice natural lakes and nature type things if you're into that sort of thing..
property taxes are also dirt cheap up that way as well compared to what i'm used to a bit south of maine..

Thanks ! I was looking at Waldo a little while ago :) The real estate company handles a few counties, looks like. Maybe they will contact me soon. My price range is really low but it looks like there are a few possibilities. Helps when taxes are low too ;)

waldo is pretty nice imo.. pretty close to the coast, or you could even be right on it in certain towns, but of course the real estate goes up the closer you get to the coast..

i've been seriously thinking of moving up that way, in fact, the gf has been sending me listings for houses up there all day, lol.. sure does get cold up there in winter though if you're not used to that kind of thing..
i went up a few years ago for new years, and holy hell, it was cold cold cold, and i mean cold, lol..

Lived in the South most of my life and ready for change for years. Had looked at upstate Maine and Washington this time around but chickened out because they r entirely unknowns. Its hard enough moving to a known area n encountering the problems possible in a real estate purchase. But need to do this for my peace of mind n sanity. N prob the snow will be a naturopathic remedy for hot flashes :) we'll see very grateful for your help :)

You have a friend here already. Moving to Maine was the best thing I ever did.

Love it in Maine...4 very distinct seasons, low crime and MMJ. So glad we bought our home here.

I'm in the southern part of the state. Employment opportunities are a little better here. As far as real estate costs, it varies greatly in the southern part of the state. Very high prices on the southern coast, go inland a few towns and the priced drop drastically.

Tough to beat access to the ocean, mountains, Boston and Portland all within an hour drive from home.

nah, spring is flowers and birds and bugs. Mud season is just mud. Melting snow still, and before all that other stuff. Crocuses, maybe lol

We live on the Eastern Coast here in Washington County. The retirees come here with their 401(k)'s. They stay a few years, loose a bundle on their home and then leave. Why? Because many folks (especially the elderly) cannot fully appreciate how rural it is. They judge Maine by it's summer activities and population. In the winter this place shuts down (almost literally the only after hours store is Irving's gas station) Make sure you choose an area that will fit your lifestyle. Personally I love it here however I maintain a $35,000 truck to plow a 1/4 mile long driveway and the closest shopping mall is 2 hours away (Bangor). If you are prepared and understand the realities you will love it. Additionally if you are single you may have a tough time. You may want to bring one with ya..lol.

Thanks everyone. Very grateful for the help. Still lookin in zone 5 away from coast. There seem to b a few possibilities in my low price range. I need space, as in several acres in a rural area and looking for a tiny house under 400 SF. I'm a hermit so I'm alone with my dogs, that won't change. Have to wait since i just moved n my cabin isn't even finished yet. Weather is turning cold so will wait til spring n out this place on market. Have had wood stoves n been off grid for years, pretty self reliant in terms of gardening n canning, can take my work with me, isolation is my fav state, just need to invest on warm clothes n learn about snow since a snow plow will not b possible... Seems like Maine is perfect. Only wish other victims of injustice could uproot too. Can't wait! Thanks for the hope :)

I just saw I'm learning to roll! Woohoo!!! What curse to b branded a criminal for a medical disability n then labeled stranger when one reaches out. I know the reasons but the irony is painful.

All very good points..
My gf basically buys everything at Walmart, and not because she's a big Walmart fan, it's just that the nearest mall or w/e is a good hour or so away..
Not many options when it comes to shopping and what not, but I'm sure you get used to it, or you don't and move away lol..
