Help me get rid of the smell! It is all consuming!

I have a 4x4 grow tent with a 1000watt light and right now I am only growing 1 master kush in a GH waterfarm. I have a 424cfm fan pulling heat from the bulb and pulling through a large 6" tallboy carbon filter. I cannot get the smell to go away. It is in my basement and I usually only smell it in my basement. But when my heat kicks on it blows it all around my house. I dont want to build anything around my furnace. I am getting a lot of suction in my tent, it is concaved on all sides even though I have another inline fan pulling in fresh air. Any ideas of what I could do to get this smell 100% gone? thanks.

take your scrubber off the tubing and have everything vent outside or out a roof or window.
You are growing a very smelly plant and Kushs' are known smellers, lol, what did you think was going to happen?

wierd though that your tall boy can't handle the smell of one plant. I have 4 big veggers in a 4x4 tent and 4 flowering white widows in a 5.5x5.5 closet. Tent has a little filter and 4' inline and the flower has a 6" inline and filter. I live in a 2 bedroom condo and I can't smell anything unless I open the tent or closet door.

All 8 of mine are mature White Widows, zero smell. How long have you had that filter? If over a year then maybe the carbon is spent?

I understand that my plant is smelly but I think that I have a filter that is WAY above and beyond what is needed and it isn't able to handle it. I have asked around and everything is pointing to the carbon being spent. I bought this off of ebay and it wasn't from a store. It was said to be an "unused" floor model. I have contacted them with my concerns. This is exact unit http://htgsupply.com/Product-GrowBright-6in-Tall-Boy-Inline-Fan-&-Charcoal-Filter-Combo.asp I am going to scramble tomorrow to find a temporary solution before my beloved makes me give up on my hobby. I think I am going to have to order 15lbs of carbon in the near future :(

Just an idea outside the possibility of carbon being spent - might be that you have too powerful fan for too small filter? From what i gather air needs contact with carbon for some specific minimum amount of time to get "scrubbed", if your fan pulls the air thru the filter too quickly it wont do its job properly. Try low speed setting if your fan has one.

i was thinking the same thing but when i look at the rating for the filter it says 265-425cfm optimal. the fan blows at 424cfm. do you think it could have anything to do with the filter standing up? I know that sounds dumb but im all out of ideas.

Mad could be right the slower the fan pulls air thruogh the filter the better the filter works......also like jesus of cannibas said above .......You need to exhaust your air OUTSIDE with negative pressure.....Once you have negative pressure and and outlet for your exhaust that isnt in the grow area or your house then you will have no more smell problems....

Would you recommend that I totally tape of all of the air vents that are in the tent? They are about 2 feet wide by 3 inches tall and they are on both sides of the tent. I did not think that they would be an issue since it is continuously caving in the sides of my unit by drawing so much air.

So...just to clarify, do you have it set up like Filter - Light - Fan or Light - Filter - Fan? That can also make a big difference. Also check everything and make sure you don't have any air leaks. If you need to slow down your fan speed a little bit, you can also put some bends into your ducting. I think like every 90* bend cuts airflow ~ 30%? Bend your ducting to make the fan work slower to use your filter more effectively until you get a fan speed controller or different fan.

I have the same prob in my basement as well i vent right outside but my prob is i left about 3 inches open on my bottem back wall for my fresh air next round i need to fill it in with carbon filter and cross my fingers. But for temp at lowes and home depot in the fiter isle they have these air fresheners that hang on your furnace filter they are like 3 bucks a piece good for about 2 weeks of keeping the wife off my back.

alright, i thought i would have the bright idea to tape the vent flaps shut and now the motherfucker looks like its gonna implode. Its even bending the four corner posts so some of the flaps are going to need to be reopened. I can get a speed controller while on my way home tomorrow.

included are pictures of my setup (the light makes my camera flip) also included is my near implosion.

Filter>flex hose>light tube>flex hose>fan>tight connection to outside.

checked the hose for any leaks and i cannot find any.

Your CFM might be too high. Sometimes if the cfm is too high the carbon doesnt work properly. Just a thought.

Yes you must leave some of the flaps open because of the negative pressure is sucking the tent inward.......If have negative pressure then having the flaps open wont make a difference...I dont quit understand your setup......if you have negative pressure and all that stinky air is being exhausted outside then i dont understand why you will have smell??? are you not exhausting it OUTSIDE???
